It disappoints me that paladins will not be able to use this, nor will warriors, due to it being mail from low levels.

The drop rate on the Scharlachrote Stiefel, when compared to the rest of the suit, is extremely small. Most likely if you're going to be missing a piece of the set, it will be the boots.

However, if you are attempting to get the set together, I've found that aesthetically, Räuberstiefel match quite well with the rest of the suit, and will do a very good job of 'filling it out' in the event that you are having difficulty in finding the boots part of the set. They are a low-level BoE 'world drop' green, and thus may be easier to find by farming low-level rares and hunting the AH.

If you are having difficulty with the Scharlachroter Brustharnisch (also a fairly rare drop, though not so rare as the boots), then the Wams des Scharlachroten Kreuzzugs can help with getting the appropriate appearance.

WTB Plate version of this for my pally. Maybe a Heroic mode reward in MoP? Or a plate replica set that's somehow obtainable through quests or something.

I've got the whole set on my 39 paladin, don't want to level him any more as the set is just mail and i couldn't use it for transmog. :(

Also i grinded on and off for months for the boots, they never dropped, i found them on the AH randomly one day for like 8g. I snapped them up right away. :)

The perfect ranged weapon to go with this transmog set is the Kugelspeiende Schrotflinte. The colour scheme matches perfectly with the set.

I love this set for my shaman. Though I am unable to find a decent one handed axe to go along with it. Which is rather disappointing.

NB: It looks like SM's changes mean that the Scarlet mail is permanently removed from the game. If you happen to have a Wams des Scharlachroten Kreuzzugs, hold onto it as it's now irreplaceable. If you have unbound pieces of the BoE scarlet set, they are now significantly more valuable and will only increase in value. (Link: Undermine Journal) You may choose to hold them or sell them, but be aware of their worth.

I put together a guide, which has much of this same information but prettier formatting and more pictures.

Quite a few people have suggested various substitutions for the Scarlet set, due to the following problems:

1) The boots and chest have a very low drop rate, making them hard to find and often prohibitively expensive.
2) There's no "official" helm or shoulders to go with the set.

I've made an attempt at a comprehensive list of the viable solutions. I'll add any others that come to my attention.

Chest: This is by far the easiest piece to cover for, because the Wams des Scharlachroten Kreuzzugs is both easy to obtain and an obvious part of the set. All you want, then, is an AH green that doesn't have visible arms that look out of place in the set. You can do this on your own AH, probably for less than 10g. If you're using a chest with no visible arms, I highly recommend one of the 3 red shirts in the notes below as well.

Boots: There are several workable boots that can stand in until that magic day when Scharlachrote Stiefel appear. However, most of your boot options pick up the red/chain look of the leggings rather than matching the red/gold of the actual scarlet boots.

My favorite option is Stiefel der Unbändigkeit. Even better, Horde can get an identical pair, Schienbeinschützer des Erdenbrechers, from a quest in Auchenai Crypts. Alliance will be stuck watching the AH, though... suckers!
Flinkfuß' Schienbeinschützer/Flammenläufer are a good alternative to the Boots of Savagery, from BRD/BRS respectively.
Räuberstiefel/Marschenkrabblerschlickstiefel aren't bad, but I don't like them as much as the above options.They're shorter and leave a gap on female toons btwn the bottom of the leggings and the top of the boots.
If you want a narrower boot, Wolfsläuferstiefel/Geschwärzte Kettenschienbeinschützer are quest items that match the Scarlet art.
Finally, Reveloshs Stiefel are easily farmable from first boss in Uldaman. They're the only non-red/chain boots in this list and a quick substitute, but most of the above are better matches.

Helm: Helm des tobenden Berserkers is the most obvious helm for the set, since it drops out of SM off of Herod, but not the only option.

Shoulders: Herods Schulter, like the helm off of Herod, is an obvious shoulder to use, but there are other options here as well.

Additional notes:

A great place to start your search for weapons is Blackwing Lair. Many of the weapons feature red/gold/flame designs and look awesome with the scarlet set; a few examples: daggers (Drachenzahnklinge), two-handed swords (Die ungezähmte Klinge), axes (Schneide der Verdammnis, Drakonischer Rächer), and maces (Lok'amir il Romathis, Wirbelsäulenbrecher/Kriegshammer des Blutenden Auges). If you're not into the BWL designs, though, there are other options.

Axes: Teufelseisenkriegsbeil is a handsome 1H axe transmog.
Maces: Runenverzierter Hammer is a possibility, crafted by BSs for only somewhat unreasonable mats. Hand der Rechtschaffenheit doesn't match the red color, but does fit the SM theme (drops from Whitemane in Cath). I mostly like it because I love how it looks with power torrent enchanted on it.
Daggers: Dolch des Leidens, Kubits DolchH/Kubits DolchA, and Blitzdolch are good caster dagger options.
Shields: The Aegis des Scharlachroten Kommandanten is an obvious shield transmog for resto/ele shamans.
Staff: There are lots of options here, but I like Glimmender Reinholzstab/Unbesiegbarer Stab which matches the colors and fits the theme.
Polearm: Schwarzfausts Verdammnissäge/Lantresors KriegsklingeA/Lantresors KriegsklingeH is a unique matching polearm.
Ranged:
Bow: Talbukjagdbogen is by far the best red/gold bow.
Crossbows: Options aren't great, but there's Unterarmarmbrust if you prefer a gold look and Ruhm des Schützen/Sehnenbezogene Armbrust/Blutige Armbrust if you prefer red.
Guns: lots of options here, depending on what you're looking for.

Shirts: There's Rotes Hemd, Modisches rotes Hemd, and Filigranes scharlachrotes Wams, but I prefer Sägeknochens Hemd or Rotes Arbeiterhemd, (because of their slightly darker color) to cover up unsightly bare arms.

Cloaks: There are just a *ton* of red/gold cloaks out there no way I can link to them all. I've recommend a few common cloaks below, but you can also check the Icy Veins shaman and hunter pages, respectively, to see all your other options.

NB: If you're lucky enough to have a Horde-only ToC Ein Tribut an den Wahnsinn (10 Spieler) (10 or 25) cloak (such as Sylvanas' List or Umhang der gezahnten Klingen) left over from Wrath, they look stunning with the Scarlet set but can no longer be obtained. Other options:

Kharmaas Tuch der Hoffnung - long, white with red/gold border; many with its model, but this one is available for Justice Points from a vendor
Khans Umhang - short, red with gold border
Blutmondumhang - long, red with gold/steel border; quite a few with this model as well, so pick one that seems easy for you

I know it's not a Transmog... but there -is- a set that matches this. In case the rare blues do not appear -- or if you prefer easier to get gear -- use these items instead!

After mourning greatly the loss of this set (and the changes to SM... I personally prefer the old version) I decided to attempt to piece together a transmog set for my hunter after noticing he still had the tabard in the bank.
You're really gonna want to have Wams des Scharlachroten Kreuzzugs already, to make this work. Or the Scharlachroter Brustharnisch should be fine. Apologies to those who don't. Perhaps Blizzard will add the tabard back to the loot tables in MoP. We can only hope.

Here are some suggestions to cover all the armour:
Head:
-Helm des tobenden Berserkers. There are other sources for this - the heirloom and a random green world drop.
-Blutritterhelm. The rest of the set goes okay with the tabard but there is better coloured mail.

Shoulders:
-Herods Schulter. You're gonna have to get the heirloom if you didn't obtain and hold on to this.
-Heldenschulterstücke.

Hands:
-Scharlachrote Stulpen. BoE. Hope for them on the AH. These are one of the more common pieces to appear there.
-Quecksilbrige Stulpen.**
-Kampfrauschstulpen. This piece's set is really red. A lot of the pieces are pretty good alternatives to the Scarlet Mail.
-Blutritterstulpen.

Chest:
-Scharlachroter Brustharnisch. BoE. Hope for it on the AH. I haven't ever seen this on there myself.
Assuming tabard to cover:
-Blutritterbrustplatte. Only has small black bands showing on the arms. No sleeves apart from that. Doesn't show up at all on undeads.
-Gebrauchte Tunika for a completely hidden chestpiece. I'm sure there are many more options. Browse your local AH, perhaps.
Red, in the case you do not have the tabard or want sleeves showing:
-Kampfrauschbrustplatte for medium sleeves.
-Purpurrote Panzerhalsberge for medium sleeves and a high collar with chain links.

Waist:
-Scharlachroter Gürtel. It's BoE, you can hope to see it on the AH. One of the more common pieces to appear there.
-Kampfrauschgürtel.
-Leerschuppengürtel.
-Quecksilbriger Gurt.** Has tan-ish sides, which sort of match with the dirty looking tabard. lol
-Marschenkrabblergürtel. More orange than red, but passable imo.
-Zornflossengürtelbund.
-Gravierter Gurt. Tis orange, but thin, in case you prefer to show the rest of the leggings you chose.
-Thoriumgürtel.

Legs:
-Kampfrauschkniehosen.
-Infernogeschmiedete Gamaschen. A match for the Purpurrote Panzerhalsberge. Long pants and has chain links. However, the red armour stops a bit high, especially at the back.
-Wellenbrecherbeinschützer. Depending on the belt and boots you use, shouldn't show too much of the odd colours.

Feet:
-Scharlachrote Stiefel. BoE. Hope for them on the AH. I haven't seen these on the AH nor seen them drop myself.
-Kampfrauschstiefel.
-Quecksilbrige Schienbeinschützer.**

** I like the Mercurial set pieces on Undeads, especially.

Here is the set I will probably be using, if you close that 3D view, all the other pieces I have recommended are there, you just need to drag and drop and then view in 3D yourself. Hope this helps someone C:

I have this set and the herod items (head, shoulders and axe) on my undead warrior. Too bad its not plate. :/ Lets hope blizzard lets us transmog any type of armor.

I should have gotten a few sets of this for myself before MoP hit, especially considering that the Scarlet Crusade is and always has been one of my favorite factions... Now I feel like such a fool for selling what pieces of it I once had.

I have found a belt for those hunter/shaman scarlet crusaders who want to use the gold/red color scheme that most of the high end scarlet crusaders have. The belt most crusaders wear is obsolete in game, but this one matches perfectly with the scarlet boots, scarlet gauntlets, blood knight pauldrons, and also the blood knight helm. It would work with other sets but i found it looks best with those 3, plus I am using inferno leggings and crimson mail hauberk, which is the chest and legs scarlet centurions wear, the ones before pandaria anyways. Hopes this helps people with scarlet belt problems.

I've gotten the gloves for this set out of the Salvage Crates from the garrison, so perhaps the rest of the set is in there as well!

It seems that the uncommon items of the scarlet crusade set, are now dropping from the Große Kiste mit Bergungsgut. I myself have seen the Scharlachroter Gürtel drop, and people in the wowhead comment sections have seen the Scharlachrote Stulpen and Scharlachrote Handgelenksschützer drop as well. From the rare items there is still no sign of though.

This set is now available in both plate: Ensemble: Schuppenpanzer des Scharlachroten Kreuzzugs and mail: Ensemble: Kettenrüstung des Scharlachroten Kreuzzugs armor sets along with a Kurzes Wams des Scharlachroten Kreuzzugs from the Darkmoon Faire. Details in Wowheads guide Here.

For any who haven't looked yet, this set is currently Plate armor in legion! As I understand (but don't have a source to) Plate/mail wearers start wearing that gear at level 1.

<Edit> Except the wrist and boots... hope they adjust that.

My Scarlet Warrior (Demon-Forged Mail) outfit version of the Chain of the Scarlet Crusade transmog set mixed with Demon-Forged Mail transmog set with some personal picks for shirt, cloak, one-handed sword and shield.

Requires level 55.
Usable by any plate class.

Sorry for including some items that are unavailable. It may require some creativity to replace if you don't happen to have them but, in any case, most of the items in Demon-Forged Mail fit nicely.

Years ago I rise up a second low level (19) tank warrior to get all the pieces of scarlet, and he has all the six items :)

Unfortunately my main warrior (70) has not those items available in the wardrobe. Is there a way to have this set in the wardrobe?

(edit) Tabard of the Scarlet Crusade is in the wardrobe: haven' seen it because I haven't the tabard put on.
