According to the 3.3 PTR notes, updated on 20 October:

Gaining reputation with the Ashen Verdict in Icecrown Citadel will grant players access to upgradeable rings from Ormus the Penitent. Players can switch between the type of ring (melee/caster/tank/healer) at any point in the upgrade path for 200g.

This is the initial quest offered by Ormus the Penitent upon reaching friendly station with The Ashen Verdict. It allows a choice between four rings that are upgraded with each new reputation level (the upgrades are not yet in the database), much like the Violet Eye and Scale of the Sands rings.

At Revered level of reputation, each ring attains a proc that lasts 10 seconds and has the standard 45-second internal cooldown:

Frostforged Defender – When struck in combat has a chance of increasing your armor by 2400 for 10 sec.
Frostforged Champion – Chance on hit to increase your attack power by 480 for 10 sec.
Frostforged Sage – Your offensive spells have a chance on hit to increase your spell power by 285 for 10 sec.
Item - Icecrown Reputation Ring Healer Effect – Your helpful spells have a chance to increase your spell power by 285 for 10 sec.

Update (11 December 2009): Added the correct names of the revered and exalted upgrades to the ring, along with temporary mmo-champion links and corrected the rep level that grants the ring a proc (revered).
Edit: Added quest text, ring procs and corrected the links for all friendly rep level rings (thanks to Aladael for pointing that out).

So, even if you are dual-spec, you can only get one of these rings? I'm a bit confused.

I'm a Resto Druid main and a Boomkin off. I can't get the Wisdom band for my Heal set AND the Destruction band for my Boom set, am I right? I have to take the one for my main spec (since I'm a Guild healer) and change later if i change roles and become a DPS-er.

How does one get to "friendly". Are there quests? If so, where are they ?

I'm currently sitting at 2070/3000 neutral after just doing 4/4 in 25. My 10man group is running tomorrow and that should put me at friendly. Also heard they might have lowered the rep from the trash before Marrowgar due to people farming the trash for rep.

I have seem multiple trade chats that have people saying LFM ICC farm run not downing boss just grinding rep!
anyone know if this works? cuz id love to get a 251 ring within like 2 hours lol :)

If this quest does not immediatelty work for you (not able to choose a reward) try relogging. It worked for me.

I do not know if this is the "lowered" reputation that blizzard changed after the release of 3.3, but as a human, I was receiving 15 and 16 for the small skeletons, and about 80 for the tall skeletons. Even if they changed the rep for trash before the first boss, it only takes about 3 to 5 clears of the beginning trash to get to Friendly.

if you do rep runs like on my server then you stop at lord marrowgar u arnt actully saved to it and can run out reset and do it again

How does this work i just go into ICC with my guild and it will have a quest for me? Im already friendly with them so i can just grab the first ring?

It wont let me get the rings? The exclamation point over his head is colored in and I am friendly witht he Ashen Verdict? Why wont it let me get the rings?

I am friendly and when i went up to him trying to get the quest it said complete quest, i click that and it tells me to choose an award but when i try to click on an award nothing happens

Does anyone know what happens if you disenchant your ashen band by accident... will i just have to pay 200g for another or am i screwed? :)

WARNING! The quest spawning next to the guy IS NOT A FOLLOW-UP QUEST.
I got my ring and chose which one I wanted, then a quest spawned next to the vendor. I took the quest and he demanded 200g and i thought what the hell. Then the next quest spawned right after on the first vendor. Only after spending 1k I realized its the same quest- you just have a chance to choose another ring. nice.

If you lose your ring you can talk to Ormus der Reuvolle and he will give it back to you.
