News Round Up: Season 10 Armor Preview, Dungeon Journal Preview, and More
2011.06.23 um 23:18
It's been a busy day here at Wowhead and also for Blizzard. There were tons of previews for 4.2 coverage today. All of them were topics we've already covered, such as season 10 armor sets so we've gathered them up for a news round up.
We also have some site news to cover before we get to the blue posts. First off we'd like to announce we picked up two new moderators on our forums Squishalot and Asakawa! If you see them around in our forums, be sure to give them a hearty welcome to their new jobs!
Secondly, we'd like to say hi to all the massive amount of readers we've picked up in the past few days. It's great to have you guys here--Wowhead News is Wowhead's newest venture and 4.2 was our test run of offering quality news as it breaks at lightning speeds. We hope you'll like what you've been reading and stick around on our site. We'll have a roundup of all our 4.2 coverage as a refresher soon and we're also holding an exciting contest starting tomorrow pwith awesome TCG prizes, so make sure you stick around for both news and loot. We aim to be your number one source for reliable and in-depth World of Warcraft news!
Ask the Creative Devs #2
2011.06.23 um 15:24
To say that it's been a while since there was a session to ask the creative team at Blizzard questions would probably be an understatement. However, today is changing all that--if you're a lore fanatic, you're about to get some light shed on some very obscure topics. From the question of the blood elves' true eye color to pondering on where the forsaken get their ship fleet from, we've got the second "Ask the CDevs" to show you guys.\r
The moon recently sent some irate emails to our Creative Development team, threatening to vacate Earth's orbit if we didn't divulge the answers to the "Ask CDev #2" thread soon. Rather than calling the moon's bluff, the CDev team stepped up its timetable and is now ready to present the answers to your questions!\r
In an effort to efficiently disseminate as much information as possible, many of these questions are amalgamations of several slight variations asked by the US, EU, Korean, and Chinese player bases. In addition, a few unanswered questions from "Ask CDev #1" are included as well. Enjoy!\r
Q: Are the Warcraft and World of Warcraft RPG books considered canon?\r
A: No. The RPG books were
Wowhead's Patch 4.2 Guide
2011.06.22 um 13:03
4.2 is coming soon--very soon in fact. And we aren't oblivious to this fact, either.
In fact, as the news dries up, we're inclined to make a singular compendium of all the vast changes this patch brings in the form of yet another Wowhead guide. Patch 4.2 is a huge patch and it's more than just a new daily hub, legendary, and raid instance. There are also new rares, loads of new gear, and many new achievements. Overall, it's massive and it's the first true patch of the expansion--4.1 simply didn't cut it!
This guide is the product of hard work by the volunteers ArgentSun, Neutronmity, Perculia, and even Gnub (a moderator who pretends to do content time to time, or at least when a legendary he wants strikes). Special thanks to them for putting forth such a great effort and also nagging me to do my dailies daily as well as make some videos for 4.2. We hope you enjoyed this guide and find it a great resource in the weeks to come. We also hope you enjoyed our 4.2 coverage these past few months; it was Wowhead News debut and we've been going out of our way to bring great content quickly to everyone. News Round Up: Midsummer Fire Festival, Paladin Changes, War Games, and More
2011.06.21 um 18:46
A lot of blue posts the past few days. From 4.2 explanations to holiday talk, there's a little bit of everything for everyone in these posts.
The festivities have begun as the citizens of Azeroth and Outland celebrate the hottest of seasons by playing with fire all across these worlds! You'll want to take part no matter your experience or character level, as this is one of the most rewarding holiday events of the year. It's also one of the most PvP-heavy events, so strap into your gladiator gear and get ready to desecrate or defend the Midsummer bonfires.
As with most holidays you'll want to stop by a capital city to begin the event’s main quests, including the ever-fun torch tossing challenges. While in each of the capital cities, be on the lookout for enemy players; stealing the flames from capital city bonfires is a necessary step in getting everything out of this once-a-year event.
Ultimately you'll collect Burning Blossoms through your participation in these events, a special holiday currency you’ll then spend to purchase various items and pets available from the Midsummer suppliers and m
Midsummer Fire Festival Guide

It's officially summer and that means it's time for the
to begin! The festivities just went live in Europe a couple of hours ago; unfortunately, those of us who play on US servers will have to wait until just past midnight of June 21st to begin celebrating. At any rate, we have our guide updated with the new loot from the event and are updating coordinates as they come in from those who use our Wowhead client. Most of them are correct in our guide, but a few have been moved with the changes that Cataclysm wrought--for example, the
fires seem to have been removed--and we'll be updating them as soon as possible.
Updated Loot Drops
We've previewed these before, but there are updated capes for adventurers and a new Scythe (which does not scale well with Cataclysm's changes to stats, as it only has stamina) from the
encounter and its reward bag as well. These capes look especially nice for alts.

Patch 4.2: New PvP Ground Mounts
2011.06.20 um 14:32
We've posted about the ground mounts before, but Blizzard did an official preview and it's nice to see them in their actual environments. They look great and hopefully it's a step forward for mount design. Back in April, Ghostcrawler said it was hard to come up with new mount designs during their BlizzCast--we think this proves you don't have to do anything extremely fancy or inventive, sometimes adding more textures and details can be enough to create awesome new mount rewards!
In order to best accommodate players under the unique play style of Rated Battlegrounds, we’ll be offering all-new PvP ground mounts -- the
Horn des boshaften Kriegswolfs
Zügel des boshaften Schlachtrosses
(Alliance) -- in a unique way. If you want to sit your knickers on these sweet new rides come patch 4.2, Rage of the Firelands, you must earn achievements for winning either 75, 150, or 300 Rated Battlegrounds. One account-bound mount will be awarded for each of these achievements earned, so if you win 300 Rated Battlegrounds with a character, you’ll be afforded the opportunity to give that character and two of your alts each a wolf or steed. Since these mounts are tied to
Mountain o' Mounts: A Guide to Collecting Mounts
2011.06.19 um 09:17
Last week, we covered all pets in the game, in anticipation of
Der kleine Haustierladen
. This week, we’ll do the same for mounts and outline some easy ways to collect 100. With the split opinions regarding the recent
, it's clear players care about their mounts.
Warcraft Mounts offers detailed info on each mount, as well a way to track your mount collection. You can also use Wowhead's profiler to track which pets you've collected, and out of the remaining ones, which you're interested in still getting. Our friends at WoW Insider also have achievement-themed articles dedicated to obtaining mounts. We've provided some tips on how to acquire all the mounts, from the easy ones to the challenging ones, below. (Note: currency prices listed are the full non-discounted cost. Players Exalted with factions or benefitting from
may save gold on some mounts.) You can also get seven of these mounts from the
Beutel voller exotischer Geheimnisse
, but it's a very small chance plus you have to be the right class/role in order to be eligible in the first place.
Here are all of the mount-related achievements thus far. There's nothing new added in for 4.2, but there will pro
Patch 4.2: A Complete Guide to Stage Two of the New Dailies

Don't forget to check out our guide to phase one of the new daily quests, available right here on Wowhead News!
Patch 4.2: A Complete Guide to Stage One of the New Dailies
Now that many of you have been introduced to the daily quests available from the
Wächter des Hyjal
faction at the new quest hubs implemented with patch 4.2, we've put together a handy guide to the next phase of daily quests, which is unlocked upon obtaining 20

Patch 4.2: Craftables
2011.06.17 um 15:01
We thought we'd wrap the week up with a post about all of the crafted items that are available in patch 4.2. Since it's only ten days away, there's a lot of ground to cover. Overall, most professions will be happy to see a lot of lucrative items to craft are in this patch--from PvP to PvP gear, to glyphs, and even a scope!
Right now, we're unable to confirm where some of the epic recipes are dropping. We suspect the ones that are ilevel 378 are from the instance themselves and we can confirm the 365 ones are from the vendors. It's worth noting though that when we downed a boss last week, there were no patterns tied to its loot table, so it may just be from trash.
Regardless of their source, however, since the recipes are BoE they will be widely available to any type of crafters. It will be a lot like the BoE recipes from
Der Schwarze Tempel
Update: The ilvl 339 rare-quality PvP recipes available on live for Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, and Tailoring are no longer obtainable on the 4.2 PTR. They have been upgraded to ilvl 358 Bloodthirsty PvP recipes (instead of two separate sets of PvP gear). This means that crafters who have already obtained the ilvl 339 recipes on live will find that they have automa
Patch 4.2 Public Test Realm Notes (Updated 6/16)
2011.06.16 um 21:59
Blizzard has just posted a small update to the 4.2 PTR Patch Notes, adding a few class changes and some seemingly major changes to
gains, lowering the minimum cap but explaining how the cap can scale linearly. I'm sure this will probably end up confusing some players so we may see further clarification in the coming week.
Death Knight Bug Fixes

New Epic Ghostcrawler Blog Explains 4.2 Class Changes
2011.06.16 um 20:59
In what is probably one of the best and most in-depth Blizzard blogs yet, Ghostcrawler takes the time to discuss the class balancing changes that have been made in Patch 4.2, giving specific examples of changes that were made, and why they were made. This new blog provides an interesting look into the development process (as Ghostcrawler's blogs always do) and will definitely answer some players' questions regarding Blizzard's justification of specific changes being made.
We understand that raw patch notes don’t always provide enough context for changes to the game, so we thought we’d take a moment to explain some of our logic behind the buffs and nerfs coming in the 4.2 "Rage of the Firelands" patch. We particularly want to try to combat the perception that classes end up nerfed in PvE as collateral damage from PvP nerfs (or vice versa). The number of PvP buffs versus PvP nerfs were about equal this time around, and we make careful consideration to keep the impact outside of PvP minimal. So, if we nerfed your class’s PvE damage, it’s most likely because we thought your class was doing too much damage in PvE.
No doubt you’
News Roundup: Authenticator Changes, Anduin Wrynn and Gelbin Mekkatorque Lore
2011.06.16 um 17:38
Just a few new posts today, including some clarifications on the new changes with Battle.net Authenticators. Players will no longer be prompted for authenticator codes when logging in from a "familiar" location (as tracked and determined by Blizzard). I assume this means it will simply recognize your local IP and no longer prompt for an authenticator code as persistently, which won't help much in protecting your account from family members or criminals who break into your home to hack your Warcraft account. Those exist, right?
Blizzard has also posted a new installment of their "Then and Now" character retrospective series, featuring Anduin Wrynn. In addition, we've got a new short story in the Leaders of Azeroth series, featuring none other than Gelbin Mekkatorque, leader of the gnomes! Alliance players rejoice, this lore's all for you!
Battle.net Authenticator Changes
If you use an authenticator – and we hope you do – you may soon notice that an authenticator prompt may not appear with every login. We’ve recently updated our authentication system to intellige
