Patch 4.3.2 Live Today
2012.01.31 um 12:11
It has taken its time, but 4.3.2 is finally hitting servers this week!
A controversial patch, this one introduces gradually scaling zone buffs to
that recall back to the ones Icecrown Citadel had--a 5% buff will be added to the instance for raids who which to take advantage of it. There are also several encounter specific nerfs that aim to allow different raid compositions for the instance's final heroic modes and several class balance tweaks.
As Blizzard has said prior, this will be the last patch of Cataclysm before a pre-Mists of Pandaria world event, so this patch also marks the beginning of the end for this expansion!

New Site Feature: Same Model As Tab
2012.01.30 um 17:23
We've had a tab that's shown you similar models on Wowhead for quite a while, but let's face it, it's been inconsistent. While helmets and shoulders have always been steadfast as they could be automatically generated, many accessories have had no such tab or have had a tab with incorrect data. Belts in particular could be misleading, because many belts had the same textures but ended up looking nothing alike; the same goes for breastplates and boots.
Luckily for you guys, though, we've been working on it--for a long time, in fact.
Since August, we have manually been crunching out thousands of items and matching them up every week. This has been a tremendous effort on behalf of all the content team, especially Perculia, and I'm really happy to announce that it's finally done and live on Wowhead right now!
In short, every item on the database should have an accurate same model as tab. From
Brustplatte der Böswilligkeit
Uralter Zauberumhang der Hochgeborenen
, we've gone through every item and matched them up manually. You may have to refresh your cache and give things time to settle to see all of them, as the data push on the site just went live, but the feature is now officially launched--and we wanted to give everyone the good news! To check it out, just go to
50 Easy Elders: Getting the Lunar Festival Pet
2012.01.28 um 14:26
The biggest draw of the 2012 Lunar Festival is the new vanity pets--but the catch is that the Festival vendors sell different ones to each faction for 50 Coins of Ancestry. However, the pets are BoE, so we'll show you the easiest way to get 50 Elders if you rolled an alt for the pet, but got stumped after ??-level guards one-shot you in Brill. Whether you want to sell extra pets for gold, roll a toon on the opposite faction to put the pet on the Neutral AH, or don't have enough tokens on your main to buy everything you want (like engineers), this guide can help.
This guide provides maps and tables organized by difficulty level for each faction. For Elders that are tricky or located far away from flight paths, I've also provided tips to reach them without dying, after personal experience on my 58 deathknight and 62 mage.
For the purposes of this guide, I will assume that you only have ground riding. Deathknights have flight paths in 1-60 zones learned automatically, so getting to 60 for a Flight Master's License is not that important if your'e that class. However, you will be able to get 4+ more Elders easily with flying.

News Round Up: World of Warcraft Cups, MoP Talents, BlizzCon Cancellation, and Addon of the Week
2012.01.26 um 14:11
We have a lot of blue posts for you to digest today--from reminicising about Ulduar (and a blue subsequently explaining why Ulduar wasn't that awesome for everyone) to talking about AMPM cups, there's a little bit of everything Blizzard related. Zarhym even took the time to explain what Blizzard's thoughts are on that +intellect plate that always drops and everyone disenchants after their paladin is decked out.
Oh, and of course, everyone's talking about that BlizzCon cancellation as well.
Our friends at WoW Interface also posted their addon of the week. It's an amazing one. Have you ever wanted the encounter journal to have more encounters? You know, those pesky vanilla WoW ones and more? Well, thanks to the power of addons, it can be that awesome! Check out CompleteEJ over at WoWInterface today and let us know what you think.
The D3DB crew also has been tirelessly datamining some big Diablo III changes--check them out and the Beta Patch 10 notes here!

No BlizzCon in 2012
2012.01.25 um 07:19
Some shocking news early this morning--there will be no BlizzCon in 2012. Blizzard says that since they've been working hard on Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Heart of the Swarm, their schedule is already jam-packed. This announcement will probably come as a disappointment to some players (including myself! I had a blast attending last year) who viewed BlizzCon as a way to socialize with WoW friends in person. However, there probably wouldn't be much new news to cover with MoP coming soon--BlizzCons that haven't revealed new expansions have been less exciting.

Lunar Festival (Jan 22 - Feb 12) Guide
2012.01.21 um 11:11
It's time for the first in-game holiday of 2012, the Lunar Festival--so everyone break out the fireworks, show a little respect for your elders, and come celebrate the (lunar) new year!
The Lunar Festival is held every year starting on a date that typically coincides with the Chinese New Year. 2012's Lunar Festival starts on January 22 and ends on February 12. Ancestors of Azeroth are praised and honored by both Horde and Alliance, who then reward players with a special title, Elder <Name>, a celebration in Moonglade, and numerous
Münze der Urahnen
that can be used to purchase festive garb, patterns and fireworks!
There aren't too many changes this year, but there are a few notable ones:
Die Urahnen des Kataklysmus
introduces 9 new elders to visit and honor--bringing the total numbers of elders up to 84.
are new faction-specific vanity pets that cost 50
Münze der Urahnen
each. They are BoE, meaning you can trade them on the neutral AH to collect both. Check out our guide to the [url=http:\/\/
News Round Up: Mists of Pandaria, Dragon Soul Nerfs, and Giveaway Winners
2012.01.19 um 12:52
The results are finally in from our New Year's resolution giveaway--join me in congratulating the winners! Perculia and I read a lot of your resolutions and really found them entertaining so thanks for that! I will be emailing the prize codes on Friday, so be sure to have an updated email address if you are one of the winners--also make sure to check your spam if you don't get one by tomorrow afternoon PDT.
We've also included some round up posts, mostly responding to the difficulty changes for Dragon Soul announced last night as well as hints to a future Q&A session with Blizzard developers.
Dragon Soul Difficulty Changes Coming Soon
2012.01.18 um 20:49
Similar to nerfs in Firelands and Icecrown, it's time for Dragon Soul to begin having its difficulty adjusted. This time, it's via "Power of the Aspects," coming the week of January 31st, which reduces the health and damage dealt by all enemies in the raid by 5%. This spell will stack over time in normal and Heroic difficulties.
This may seem a bit sudden to players, as well as unexpected--with LFR being designed to be accessible, why make heroics easier this early on?

Patch 4.3.2 Will be Cataclysm's Last According to Dave Kosak
2012.01.17 um 17:45
Dave Kosak, Blizzard's lead quest designer, gave a solid interview with Videogamer.com late last week. He highlighted 4.3's successes, failures, and also confirmed that there will be no extra content in the wings for Cataclysm--meaning anyone betting on a Ruby Sanctum styled encounter should stop while they're ahead.
In the interview, Kosak also touched on World of Warcraft's recent subscriber losses as well as Blizzard's overall feelings towards Cataclysm as an expansion. Although many have been disappointed with Cataclysm, he was quick to note the sheer level of content it brought to the world and how much of an epic undertaking that truly was for the World of Warcraft development team. Overhauling all those low level quests took massive amounts of time--and were desperately needed, whether players realize it or not.
While Cataclysm may not have been the highlight of WoW's timeline, it was a necessary one to prolong the life of Azeroth.
Hit the break for a transcript of the full interview and let us know your thoughts on both the interview and the expansion. Was Cataclysm a good expansion? Should there have been anot
Traveling Around Azeroth: A Transportation Guide
2012.01.15 um 13:29
Getting around Azeroth quickly is important--especially with holidays requiring lots of travel like the Lunar Festival and Love is in the Air coming up. Basic flight paths can take you anywhere, but they're slow and easily up to 15 minutes across a continent. And which boat goes where from Stormwind anyway? There are numerous items, teleports, and portals that can shave minutes off your travel experience--whether you're looking to get to an Outland instance to farm transmog gear or have archaeology digsites scattered across the world. There's even breadcrumb quests that you can hold onto which will provide useful ports!
With this guide, you'll learn about all the travel options on each continent. You'll never have to spam trade looking for a mage to port you to a major city again!
Flight paths are what most players will use to travel between nearby zones, and Cataclysm added many new flight paths to the game. You can view them for a particular region by looking at our zone maps and turning on the flight path option. Continent maps also show boat\/zeppelin paths as well.

Wowhead Site Features in 2011
2012.01.10 um 14:58
2011 was a busy year for us at Wowhead and we're looking at 2012 now as we pick and choose the projects we want to put out. The problem is there's a lot of things we want to do and time is always our most valuable resource, so we could use a little help.
That's where you come in--we really want to examine 2011's project load and see what our community thought of it, in particular which one they felt was the most successful and most desired feature. Maybe you really liked the transmogrification sets and would like more of those such database enhancements in the future; perhaps you were drawn to site achievements; or it's possible that you really like being able to pen a solid guide in our guide section. Either way, it's time to tell us!
So cast your vote on the poll and sound off in the comments on what features you liked the most on Wowhead this past year! If it's a tie, feel free to vote for more than one option! Also, if you want to read about these features further, they're covered on our what's new page as well. (You'll have to be logged i
Patch 4.3.2 - PTR Build 15176 - Spell Changes
2012.01.10 um 14:19
We have our spell changes from the latest PTR build up. We've merged them with the past ones from last week, so you can see all the spell changes that are on the PTR so far. Besides the TCG items, there are no new items so far, but these are significant spell changes. The biggest are actually under NPC changes, where you can see Dragon Soul is in for some huge nerfs come 4.3.2.
