Explanation of 4.3 Balance Changes, Part Two
2011.11.11 um 11:03
It's a holiday for some, but Blizzard was at work releasing a new blog this morning--Ghostcrawler shared more of his thoughts on the class and balance changes in 4.3. Many classes received detailed explanations about upcoming changes--such as Holy Radiance, Mortal Strike, Fire Mage buffs, and bear form Stamina. However, rogues weren't mentioned at all--and it would have been interesting to hear more thoughts on Blizzard's concerns from the live Q&A how rogues were underrepresented in raiding and their perceived lack of utility.

While we have completed a lot of work, it’s just hard to know at this stage when the patch will be ready. Nothing is set in stone until the actual patch, and even then we still have the ability to hotfix any major problems that we missed or caused.
First, here is the link to Part One of our balance explanations. W
Class Design & Balance Live Q&A and Transcript
2011.11.09 um 12:40
Fresh from the success of the recent live Q&A about Mists of Pandaria, Blizzard hosted another live Q&A today at 10:45 am PST.
Today's chat was with the class design team, covering the past, present, and future of World of Warcraft classes. As with the last Q&A, we updated the transcript live and provided highlights of the chat. There were so many questions this round, with the whole class design team present, so we broke down the highlights by class to make it easier to browse!
The current 5.0 model is that there are 8 raid buffs: health, attack power, spell power, melee haste, spell haste, crit, mastery and stats.
Skeptical that there will ever be a talent build that is the perfect build for every PvE fight in the game, but players can still find an ideal set of talents for an encounter. However, there is still more room for customization than in the past.
Would like to bring level of primary stats closer to level of secondary stats.
The goal of providing resilience as a base stat is to make players who primarily do PvE content able to enter the PvP space with their PvE gear and remain compet
PvP Season 10 Ending Soon, And Point Sellback Conversion Policy
2011.11.09 um 11:20
Arena and Rated Battleground Season 10 is scheduled to end as early as November 15. At that point we will determine who is eligible for the end-of-season rewards, a process that should take approximately one week. It's very important for players who feel that they may be eligible for Arena titles and/or the Vicious Gladiator’s Twilight Drake to refrain from transferring their characters to another realm or faction until after Season 10 ends. During the break between seasons, all Rated Battleground and Arena matches will be unavailable.
At the end of the season, Conquest Points will be converted to Honor Points, possibly exceeding the 4,000 point Honor cap. All Season 10 items will cost Honor Points (equivalent to their previous Conquest Point cost) when the season ends, with the exception of any items with rating requirements attached. These items will no longer be available for purchase.
Please be aware that higher ilvl PvP items will be introduced and available for Honor points with patch 4.3.
The next Arena and Rated Battleground season will begin for level-85 players approximately one week after the end of Season 10 and will coincide with t
News Round Up: WoW Loses 800k More Subscribers, Mists of Pandaria Interview, and More
2011.11.08 um 20:09
Blizzard had their third quarterly call for the year that reported losses. World of Warcraft lost 800,000 subscribers for this quarter--following a 600k loss this May and 300k subscriber loss in August over the past two quarters.
In the call, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime said the majority of subscriptions lost came from China and other countries in the East. They also declined to provide a forecast for future numbers. However, though this may seem like a shocking number, you have to remember that this is during a lull in the expansion. Without major content patches, WoW tends to lose subscribers only to regain them during an expansion's launch. Here's to hoping Mists of Pandaria brings players back!
Without further ado, here's the news round up.

New Site Feature: Transmogrification Sets
2011.11.08 um 13:07
Transmogrification is one of the most hyped features in the upcoming 4.3 patch. And since we're the main World of Warcraft database, the pressure has been on us to create some tools for our users to find what they'll be wearing. As such, we've been working on some pretty awesome features as a team in addition to our usual workload since it was first announced this August.
With that in mind, I'm pleased to announce that we're launching phase one of our transmogrification features today. More are coming in the following weeks, but we think you'll like this one a lot so we decided to get it out the door and on Wowhead!
In short, this phase is all about transmogrification sets. A transmogrification set is a set of gear that matches, even if Blizzard doesn't always call it a set--and we've combined over 1,100 of them for this feature in the past few months.
From alternate recolors of tier 10 to awesome low-level BoE sets to matching gear from troll heroics, the content team has added almost every unique set you could possibly want. If you're a warlock who wants to look like a priest or a paladin who feels more like a warrior, we've also got you covered; these are labeled as "look-al
4.3: Darkmoon Faire Preview Guide
2011.11.06 um 12:41
The new Darkmoon Faire hit the PTR this morning and we couldn't wait to finally experience it after seeing all the teaser datamined items over the past few months! It's filled with quirky details, fun games, and lots of vanity items for all tastes. The Faire has been radically revamped, with new achievements, games, rewards, and currencies. We've covered it all in the guide below with numerous screenshots organized by attraction.
The replica Dungeon Tier items we found several weeks ago made it to the PTR! This means you can transmogrify your armor into Dungeon Set 0 and .5 tier from vanilla (and without class restrictions too!). These sets had been removed in Cataclysm and were currently unobtainable on live.
Numerous new mounts and pets to purchase.
A large-scale PvP arena bloodbath.
New quests associated with mini-games as well as professions: this will grant
Gewinnlos des Dunkelmond-Jahrmarkts
which can be used to purchase vanity items and transmogrification gear.
A petting zoo!
Dev Watercooler - The Great Item Squish (or Not) of Pandaria
2011.11.04 um 11:33
The item level and stat inflation on gear gets more and more pronounced between expansions--or even new patches. The devs wanted to touch upon this problem at BlizzCon, but ran out of time. In this Dev Watercooler, they address the problems related to stat budgets and propose several solutions. Nothing is set in stone, but the solutions are really interesting to analyze.
We've also got some minor changes to 4.3 PTR patch notes at the end of the post. Of particular note is that Tol Barad Veteran now requires 25 wins, down from 100, and Death Knight pets now properly inherit their master’s crit and spell penetration stats.
/1999/xhtml" class="detail">
The lead designers were originally going to talk about this topic at BlizzCon, but it didn’t really match the content of the rest of our “Intro to Pandaria” presentation, and seeing as how we finished our 90-minute slot with 93 seconds remaining, there wouldn’t have been room for it anyway. But several of us did bring up the issue with players and media we talked to, and it even ended up in at least one FAQ, so we figured we’d go
Deathwing Kill Video, News Round Up, Contest Winners, and 4.3 PTR Changes
2011.11.03 um 14:19
A pretty big news round up day, as we have a lot of news to share plus fun things like contest winners and our Deathwing kill video.
First and foremost, however, we have a job opening at Wowhead. It's always a huge honor to bring someone aboard our team and this time is no different. ZAM is growing and we've found ourselves in need of a Java Developer. If you have a lot of experience and know how to code, as well as have a strong passion for video games, you should look us up; after reading the requirements, just send your salary history and resume to email@example.com if you're interested.
We're looking for a new Java Developer here at Wowhead.
Deathwing Kill Video
I made this a few days ago for Tankspot--it's just me killing Deathwing on the final encounter of Dragon Soul from this week's PTR. I realized I never shared it, though!
A few words on the fight: first off, it's really fun. It looks boring when you see a video, because it's just generally boring to watch videos anyway; the gist of the fight is that you gain buffs, you have to dynamically jump to the platform, and the

is today in Azeroth--it only lasts one day and serves as an awesome minor holiday, similar to
, to close out Hallow's End. We've whipped up a small guide so you can know the quests and achievement for the event; make sure you don't skip out if you're an achievement hunter, as it boasts one achievement that can't be obtained any other day of the year!
Tip: Get some

To take part in the events festivities, you must first locate Catrina, an undead female (and a reference to La Calavera Catrina), who can be found near the graveyard of any capital city. She will give you some information regarding the holiday itself, and it is most important that you remember to /dance with her--upon doing so, you will earn the only achievement for this holiday,
Des toten Manns Party
. You will also gain the buff
Ehrt die Toten
, which will change you into either Catrina or her male counterpart, Chapman, for twelve hours.

MMORPG.com Interview with Rob Foote about Mists of Pandaria
During BlizzCon this year, we had the chance to sit down with Rob Foote, Senior Game Producer on World of Warcraft. Rob deals mostly with the art team, but as all producers can tell you, he knows quite a bit about the design as a whole surrounding Blizzard’s latest expansion: Mists of Pandaria. We set out a few difficult questions to Rob, but he was pretty apt to answer them, and we think you’ll like the outcome.
MMORPG.com: The very first thing we asked? Pandaria… Pandarens… why?
Rob Foote: They’ve been something we’ve wanted to do for a long time, especially artistically. Ever since Warcraft III, people were drawn to them. We started on the model five years ago, and it just sat there in the archives. Cataclysm was over and we wanted something different, and Pandaria made a lot of sense because the Pandas are so “big” thematically that they overshadowed the “big bad”. And we really wanted to get into a sort of Asian-influenced theme.
MMORPG.com: Was there a conscious decision to

It's been a busy week for Ashelia and myself in the wake of BlizzCon.
