8.3 PTR Broadcast Text - Ny'alotha Raid Boss Dialogue and Plan to Defeat N'Zoth (Spoilers)
17.10.2019 um 11:58
In this Visions of N'Zoth story preview, we're looking at datamined broadcast text pertaining to the Ny'alotha raid, including important bosses and our plan to defeat N'Zoth.
Story spoilers: as this is based on datamining and Visions of N'Zoth is still in testing, all dialogue is subject to change.
Ny'alotha is a twelve boss raid culminating in several encounters against the Old God himself. Check out our other coverage on this raid:

Wrathion is the first encounter in Ny'alotha, a tragic fate for the Black Dragon who tried so hard in Visions of N'Zoth to defeat the Old Gods.
Despite all his schemes, Wrathion could not avoid succumbing to the madness that claimed his father. With his mind corrupted by N'Zoth, the Black Prince is a force of unbridled hatred, capable of annihilating all who oppose him in blood and flame.
We've datamined a model for his
, as well as encounter dialogue such as:
My dear friends. A wondrous honor has been bestowed upon you. The chance to embrace your destiny, as I have.
N'Zoth has shown me the inevitable truth. That to save Azeroth, we must accept his gift.
Kneel and serve. It is the only way.
We knew that Wrathion somehow survived the encounter, as he has dialogue pertaining to the latter half of the raid. Some lines imply the fight was an illusion created by N'Zoth:
Magni: Yer back! What happened?
Wrathion: I learned that it doesn't take much for my friends to believe I betrayed them.
Wrathion: Doubt me if you must, but know that I will not rest until his smoldering corpse lies at my feet.
Wrathion: Champions, that vision was as much for me as it was for you. N'Zoth wants us to believe that my corruption is inevitable.
Later in the raid, the Dark Inquisitor is torturing Queen Azshara for entering into a deal with Sylvanas and plotting to defeat N'Zoth.
Submit, Azshara! Beg forgiveness for your failure! Your betrayal!
Insolence only prolongs your agony! You will break, or I will carve out your defiant tongue!
Azshara then asks us to help her; in return, she'll tell us her plan to defeat N'Zoth. Wrathion is a bit skeptical of her claims, but picks up the Blade of the Black Empire.
Azshara: Release me! Only I possess the means of defeating N'Zoth!
Wrathion: We fulfilled our end of the bargain, Azshara. Now honor yours.
Azshara: Mind your tone, whelpling. A queen keeps her promises. Listen closely, as I will only say this once.
Azshara: For all his bluster, N'Zoth was ever the weakest of his kin. One vestige of their power yet remains that can be turned against him.
Azshara: I would have driven this blade into his foul heart myself... had you not disrupted my plans.
Azshara: No matter. Xal'atath is yours, mortals. Strike true. Should your first blow fail, you will not survive to attempt another.
Wrathion: Azshara has a fondness for games. I will examine this dagger for signs of treachery. But for now, let us continue.
Drest'agath received a number of incidental combat lines, with one notable phrase:
You are puppets dancing on strings of stone and steel!
This echoes Sylvanas' deriding phrase from the cinematic
, mocking the Alliance and Horde gathered:
Toy soldiers in tin plate. Beasts who howl for honor.
We first see Vexiona attacking the Red Dragonflight at the Vermillion Redoubt in the
Heart of Azeroth Essence Questline
Vexiona: Gather, servants of the Void. It is time to receive my gift.
Vexiona: Those who are worthy shall be remade through its power!
Vexiona: Wrathion! I look forward to reuniting you with your father!
Wrathion: If Vexiona and her dragonflight wish to be cast into darkness, then let us help them on their way.
Wrathion: Good riddance. Vexiona would see all dragons kneel before N'Zoth.
In Mists of Pandaria, players freed Ra-den from the Throne of Thunder, although he was not optimistic we could save the world. Ra-den was tortured and chained by The Thunder King for millennia, after falling into despair that the Pantheon appeared to be dead, abandoning his duties as a Keeper of Azeroth.
Wait! I am... I am not your enemy. You are powerful, more powerful than he was, even... perhaps you are right. Perhaps there is still hope.
But there is a yawning chasm of darkness beneath you mortals, vast, endless, and all consuming. I do not believe that you can correct this doomed course.
But... you have earned the right to try. Farewell.
In Visions of N'Zoth, Ra-den initially helps us (covered in the section below), but ultimately turns corrupt. The concept of losing hope, part of Sylvanas' plan since War of the Thorns, resurfaces once again here:
Magni: Ra-den?! It cannae be! Ye're a servant o' the titans, of Azeroth herself!
Ra-den: N'Zoth opened my eyes to his great truth. He freed me from the narrow confines of the titans' path.
Ra-den: Come. I will reveal the master's glory and liberate you from darkness!
Magni: Ra-den was a keeper of Azeroth. A great hero... but he lost hope.
Magni: Take a lesson from this, champions. Do not let N'Zoth wield yer fears against ye.
We are unsure if the following piece of dialogue takes place before or after the raid. If this dialogue takes place after the raid, it means Ra-den has been saved. If this dialogue takes place before, then it means Ra-den knew about our plan before turning corrupt, and it was likely shared with N'Zoth.
Ra-den: MOTHER, you reconfigured the Engine of Nalak'sha to help power the Forge of Origination?
Ra-den: Incredible! The level of expertise that would require... You are most impressive.
MOTHER: Initiating commendation reception protocol: Thank you.
Ra-den: I would... appreciate... the opportunity to converse with you further on the matter.
MOTHER: Scheduling conversation for next available cycle. Please stand by.
Ra-den: Oh. Yes. Of course.
Il'gynoth has returned as a boss, with a new set of death-themed whispers likely referencing Calia, Helya, Death, Sylvanas, and various Dragonflights. If his whispers are anything like the last set, we'll be seeing the story hints play out over the next several years.
After defeat in the Emerald Nightmare, Il'gynoth retreated to the depths of Ny'alotha. Here, he has merged with the very architecture of N'Zoth's plane. Spreading like a malignant tumor, Il'gynoth's corruption continues to feed on everything he touches.
Il'gynoth: Before the last shadow falls, the Father of Sleep shall savor his feast.
The golden one claims a vacant throne. The crown of light will bring only darkness.
When their mistress beckons, nine ravens take flight. Each seeks a prize to earn her favor.
The vassal of life disguises treachery. Beware the eyes of green.
Five lanterns, now darkened. The flame they seek will light the masters' way.
The blind queen wields a scepter of bone. From the deep she calls forth doom.
The cunning ones kneel before six masters, but serve only one.
Solution to Defeat N'Zoth
It's unclear if the Blade of the Black Empire is used to ultimately defeat N'Zoth, as Azshara suggests, but dialogue suggests we used the Engine of Nalak'sha to power the Forge of Origination, unleashing it upon N'Zoth. As we proceed through Ny'alotha, we drop anchors to help us power up the Forge.
Magni: "All o' the other forges are workin' full-time tae protect Azeroth. Is there anywhere else we can get that power?
MOTHER: Schematics indicate compatibility between Forge of Origination and Engine of Nalak'sha.
Magni: That's it, then! Looks like we're headin' tae Pandaria!
Ra-den: I have gone through great lengths to remove myself from the problems of this world, yet you bring this outsider to me?
Qian: Forgive me, Highkeeper. The mantid have overrun Mogu'shan Vaults, and threaten the Engine of Nalak'sha.
Ra-den: You waste your energy worrying over the vaults, Qian. The threat that is coming will consume us all.
Magni: It cannae be coincidence that just when we need help with the Forge of Origination, we find the keeper who installed it!
Magni: Ye go on ahead. I'll try tae talk some sense in tae him.
Magni: So all o' the titan facilities on Pandaria are connected? Fascinating!
Magni: Well, no sense standin' around while the world is endin'! Tae Mogu'shan Palace!
Ra-den: An intriguing discovery, Speaker. Are you certain of it?
Magni: Aye, and MOTHER's already lookin' over the data in the Chamber of Heart.
Ra-den: Hmm. Perhaps I should observe this myself.
Ra-den: You have given me hope, and in return I will offer my aid.
Ra-den: Long has it been since I last saw the Forge of Origination.
Ra-den: Stormspeaker, I leave the Rajani in defense of the Engine.
Ra-den: I will take us to the Chamber of Heart. This may prove... disorienting.
MOTHER: Protocol requires localized sanitation prior to anchor deployment.
Magni: Aye, ye'll have tae clear out any beasties so the anchor can be placed.
Magni: Once ye have 'em all set, we'll take the fight tae N'Zoth!
Magni: Each anchor brings us closer tae unleashing the power o' the Forge against N'Zoth
MOTHER: Potential anchor point detected in immediate vicinity.
Magni: Good, the sooner ye place these anchors, the sooner we bring down N'Zoth.
MOTHER: Warning: Proximity to target required for ensured accuracy. Insufficient power for subsequent activations.
Wrathion: We will not fail. The time has come for N'Zoth to answer for what he has done to Azeroth... and to my father.
Magni: What MOTHER means is we have only one shot at this. The closer you get tae N'Zoth, the better our odds o' hitting him.
Wrathion: For an Old God who claims to see everything, you are blind to the threat before you.
Magni: We've cracked his shell, champions! Now fer the hard part.
Magni: Ye'll need tae enter N'Zoth's mind and weaken him before we can focus the origination beam.
Magni: Guard yerselves. There's no tellin' what foul beasties are brewing in N'Zoth's brain.
Magni: Champions, we're chargin' the Forge! He's gettin' weaker! Keep fightin'!
Magni: That's it! Fire the beam!
MOTHER: Dimensional gateway established.
Along the way, we must foil the Amathet's plan to defeat N'Zoth, as it involves rebooting all of Azeroth. The threat of the Amathet was first teased in the Island Expedition quest
This looks tae be a pretty ancient monument of the Amathet. Keep an eye out while I try and decipher these markings.
Almost got it...
Okay done! It says here the Amathet inhabited the very tombs we stand above.
This definitely looks more recent. Give me some time to decipher it.
Got it! This tablet warns of growing corruption form within the Amathet.
A group called the ""Suntouched"" has been tasked with eliminating this threat. I think that's where we should look next.
Look! The markings on these tablets reference the Old Gods. This might be their plan to defeat N'Zoth.
Okay, watch my back again while I figure this out.
Interesting! Some of these symbols are titanic in origin. This one here is means ""Reply code: Omega.""
Wait... that can't be right...
Oh no, this is bad. Their plan tae eliminate N'Zoth is tae reoriginate the whole of Azeroth!
The Amathet are already in the forge! I hope we're not too late!
Can't you see you are too late? The Old Gods' taint reaches every corner of this world.
All must be remade as the titans willed it!
Fools... your existence... brings your doom...
N'Zoth does not seem perturbed by us and continues to speak in riddles, using familiar imagery of eyes, dreams, the Circle of Stars, and drowning. The final line, "Deal. I like deals..." is what N'Zoth says to Azshara in
, echoed by Bwonsamdi to Rastakhan later in Battle for Azeroth. We're still not sure who Bwonsamdi's boss is, and why they're upset Vol'jin's spirit went missing. Could Bwonsamdi also be related to N'Zoth?
Despite being imprisoned deep beneath the waves by the titan-forged, N'Zoth's influence continued to corrupt Azeroth. Now, for the first time in millenia, the true form of N'Zoth the Corruptor is revealed. Unless he is stopped, the Black Empire will plunge Azeroth into an eternity of darkness.
Enter my realm... and prove your worth.
With a whisper, the Earth Warder bent to my will.
Who are you to resist me?
Your minds remain closed. Come, mortals... glimpse the infinite truths.
All paths converge within the perfection of the Void!
Your struggle is futile. Join me, and be reborn in the Void!
The titans' playthings mean nothing to a god!
Go... for now. You will yet serve me.
You cannot escape your fate.
You disappoint your true master.
Yes, my chosen. You have proven worthy of my gift.
Only I can sustain you. Let go. Serve me.
Let your eyes be opened.
Come forth and be drowned.
Your eyes... are closed.
You will never leave the Circle.
All visions shall be made real.
Your flesh shall be tested.
Do not fail me again.
Such magnificent flesh.
Deals... I like deals.
During the encounter, N'Zoth reveals Azshara's deal with Sylvanas. Is he lying to us, or telling the truth? Elements of the betrayal line up with what both Azshara and Sylvanas have shown us:
N'Zoth: Behold my betrayal... and yours.
Azshara: We have a bargain, then. I will bring both fleets crashing to the ocean floor, and your champion will deliver the dagger to me.
Sylvanas: And in turn, you will have the key required to free the Old God from his bonds... and leave him vulnerable.
Azshara: You wound me, Warchief. After all, I am as dedicated to my master as you are to your subjects.
Sylvanas: Indeed. Just be certain that once you have what you need, you dispose of your guests. Let none of the "heroes" escape.
Azshara: I admire your ruthlessness, Windrunner. It seems our interests are aligned... at present.
Sylvanas: At present.
Azshara: Treacherous Banshee! Do you think I am blind to the darkness you seek to unleash?
