Analysis of Shadowlands DPS in Mythic Castle Nathria - Patch 9.0.5 Week 3
30.03.2021 um 04:39
Today we will take a look at the DPS balance in Castle Nathria during the third week of Patch 9.0.5. For this analysis we will use data provided by
Warcraft Logs Mythic Castle Nathria statistics
Warcraft Logs' Castle Nathria Statistics Page
Disclaimers and Source
The data for this article was taken from the
Castle Nathria Statistics Page on Warcraft Logs
under the Shadowlands Season 1 partition at the 95th percentile for Mythic difficulty in the window.
The idea of this article is to give a perspective of the state of class balance for Castle Nathria in Shadowlands Season 1, looking at the data of the most recent week in the raid.
We say perspective, as there are inherent biases in looking at the data this way.
Specs that are considered underpowered are generally played less and tend to appear weaker than they actually are.
This happens as many performance-oriented players will tend to play the strongest spec or class, increasing even further the gap between top and bottom specs.
The balance between specs is very delicate and will likely change throughout Season 1, as player acquire more gear, different classes and specs tend to perform better with more secondaries.
Also keep in mind that Blizzard announced more class tuning going into effect tomorrow which should shake up these rankings.

Spec Analysis for the Third Week of Patch 9.0.5
This week we had some movement in rankings, partially because of the meta still stabilizing after the
changes added with Patch 9.0.5
and partially due to players starting to kill bosses faster, leading to changes on cooldown alignments.
For this week, we've asked our Unholy Death Knight and Feral Druid Class Writers to give more input about the future of their specs in Castle Nathria during Patch 9.0.5.
Unholy Death Knight
To start off, I'd like to say that even if Unholy has fallen 5 places in the rankings, the actual change is very small. Unholy has a score that is very close to multiple specs. Small fluctuations, even only statistical ones, can therefore cause a large effect. Having said that, there are two distinct things that could've lead to a small decrease in Unholy's power. First of all, Heirmir's
Heirmirs Arsenal: Markgefüllter Edelstein
was hotfixed on the 18th to not allow for cancelaura shenanigans. You could previously cancel the charging portion of this spell and better control when you'd gain the buff. Some unholy players leveraged this to gain dps. Secondly, as kill timers fall to below 4 minutes or so, Unholy will see a drop in dps (this is something we see on the earlier bosses). This is because you won't have time to use your second
Armee der Toten
. Unholy will gain power as the kill timer drops even lower but it's unlikely it will go to the point where Unholy's insane burst start weighing up the loss of the second
Armee der Toten
To summarise, the drop in rankings Unholy wasn't that large when you consider the absolute change in points. Multiple closely ranked classes can cause a large shift only if the difference in power was just a statistical deviation. There are two effects however that can contribute to a decrease in Unholy's power, but they are unlikely to be very significant.
With new data coming out this week feral appears to have dropped a little on the overall rankings. Digging deeper into the numbers we can see that feral's strength continues to be present, namely doing top tier single target dps. However as a) more people kill stone legion generals and b) as more people deep on farm start to play fights a little more "paddy", particularly fights like Sire, Inerva, and Council of Blood, this results in Feral dropping down a little due to less capability of properly exploiting pad fights.
Rest assured there's nothing with scaling (scaling doesn't actually exist), it's just a natural artifact of deeper farm on lower AOE specs.
