The data for this article was taken from the
Castle Nathria Statistics Page on Warcraft Logs
under the Shadowlands Patch 9.0.5 partition at the 95th percentile for Mythic difficulty in the window.
The idea of this article is to give a perspective of the state of class balance for Castle Nathria in Shadowlands Season 1, looking at the data of the most recent week in the raid.
We say perspective, as there are inherent biases in looking at the data this way.
Specs that are considered underpowered are generally played less and tend to appear weaker than they actually are.
This happens as many performance-oriented players will tend to play the strongest spec or class, increasing even further the gap between top and bottom specs.
The balance between specs is very delicate and will likely change throughout Season 1, as player acquire more gear, different classes and specs tend to perform better with more secondaries.

Spec Analysis for Week of April 13th
There was little movement in rankings this week. As the class changes from 9.0.5 settle in, ranking will be more stable, meaning the likelihood of movement is minimal. Only changes to be observed without any external influences like balancing tuning will be due to players starting to kill bosses faster, leading to changes on cooldown alignments, or new playtstyles discovered.
Even with little movement overall, two specs, Demonology Warlock and Fury Warrior saw significant changes in their positioning, so we invited their Class Writers to analyze this movement.
The recent small uptick in Demonology logs for Mythic Nathria has relatively nothing to do with the recent buffs to the spec and more related to faster kill times (thus less time for Demonology's DPS to fall off) and
's recent stab at getting rank 1 on all Heroic bosses, where he primarily used Demonology for this. This has helped Demonology see some more light on some fights in Castle Nathria but nothing significant. We're likely to see our 'rank' go up and down quite a bit as more people want to secure some parses before the end of the tier.
There is a lot of things that go into one of these parse runs, most of which include stacking health buffs (
Seelenstärke der Ahnen
Emblem des sündigen Gladiators
, etc) among other buffs to supercharge your
Dämonischen Tyrannen beschwören
. It's not quite as easy as it looks, especially in Mythic as it requires your raid to have a decent amount of coordination and sacrifices your raids precious
Seele der Macht
Because Fury lacks strong lengthy cooldowns, they don't benefit as much from shortening encounters on farm, especially when they lead to skipping AoE phases, although this is balanced out as more players experiment with other covenants - while Venthyr is still considered the go-to covenant for progression, an increased number switching to Night Fae and even Kyrian is resulting in higher parses, particularly on encounters with heavy burst AoE. As always, timing is everything, and getting encounters short enough where strong two or three minute cooldown classes burst through execute phases will end up hurting Warriors more than others.
