Giants of Lore: Anduin Lothar
30.03.2010 um 18:06
Welcome back once again to our next installment of Giants of Lore! In this session, we'll be taking a look at the man, the myth, the legend - Anduin Lothar, the Lion of Azeroth.
Anduin Lothar was the last of the descendants of the Arathi kings
. During the First War, he was the Knight Champion of the Kingdom of Azeroth, and during the Second War, he was the Supreme Commander of the armies of the Alliance of Lordaeron. He is considered to be one of the greatest human warriors of all time.
The First War
Unlike some of his fellow commanders, when the orcs first poured through the Dark Portal, Lothar wanted to take the fight directly to them instead of waiting around. Luckily, King Adamant Wrynn III
agreed with him. Unfortunately, before King Adamant (lol) could join the fight with Lothar, he died and his son, King Llane Wrynn joined the fight. With Lothar's help, the human forces were able to hold the orcish horde back at the
Sümpfe des Elends
. During the course of the war, the Archmage Khadgar came to Lothar to inform him that his childhood friend, Medivh, had been the one to open up the portal that brought the orcs to Azeroth. It was with great sadness that Lothar and a band of loyal followers including Khadgar and the half-orc Garona, stormed the Tower of Karazhan and slew the corrupted Medivh
Even though Medivh had been slain, the orcs were still able to continue the war quite effectively. In fact, the orcs soon grew more powerful as they learned from their previous mistakes and adapted to the new world. It was not long after the slaying of Medivh that King Llane was assassinated by none other than Garona Halforcen. The one-time friend of Llane was being controlled by the dark arts of the nefarious Shadow Council to slay the human king, and so poor Garona was unable to stop herself. With the king dead and Stormwind sacked, Lothar gathered up the remaining troops and what civilians he could find and headed north to the human kingdom of Lordaeron.
The Second War
Once there, Lothar enlisted the help of his friend, King Terenas II
. With King Terenas arguing for Lothar's cause, the many human kingdoms flocked to Lothar's banner, creating the Alliance of Lordaeron
. Because Lothar already had much experience fighting the orcs -and because he was a neutral party- the human kingdoms named him Supreme Commander of the Alliance forces. Lothar then named Turalyon as his second-in-command and Daelin Proudmoore
, Uther Lightbringer
, and Archmage Khadgar as his lieutenants. The war raged on, but the tides of favour shifted towards the human forces. Due to a reason unbeknown to the Alliance, the orcs withdrew their attack from Lordaeron
; allowing Lothar and the Alliance to move back to retake their southern land and holdings.
During the course of the war, the Alliance forces pushed back to Blackrock Spire. There they met the forces of the Horde in battle. Unfortunately, Lothar was separated from his forces during the heat of combat and was forced into a duel against the orc warchief, Orgrim Doomhammer. The fight raged on until a blow from the warchief's fabled weapon splintered Lothar's sword and shattered his skull. With Lothar dead, Doomhammer believed that the Alliance forces would lose heart and that the Horde would have no trouble defeating them. Lothar's sacrifice had the opposite effect though. With their hero dead, the Alliance forces were enraged and fought harder than ever. Turalyon, Lothar's second-in-command, took up Lothar's shield and shattered sword and led the Alliance to victory over the Horde, allowing Lothar's old friend, the Archmage Khadgar, to destroy the Dark Portal and save the Alliance from the threat of the orcs.
This was the nation that eventually founded the city of Stormwind.
He is the father of King Llane Wrynn and the grandfather of Varian Wrynn.

Who is also the father of Arthas, who later became the dreaded Lich King.
This is the first alliance and what would later become the Alliance as we know it today. This alliance consisted of the seven human nations - Azeroth, Lordaeron, Stromgarde, Kul Tiras, Gilneas, Dalaran, and Alterac; as well as the high elves of Quel'thalas, the dwarves of the Wildhammer Clan, the dwarves of Ironforge, and the gnomes of Gnomeregan.
He is the father of Jaina Proudmoore.
He was Arthas' mentor and trainer when Arthas was a paladin.
This was because the orc warlock Gul'dan, who was the leader of the Shadow Council, went off to search for the Tomb of Sargeras; taking a couple of the orc clans with him. The Warchief Doomhammer then sent a third of the Horde's fighting force to bring Gul'dan back.
