Abilities
Yrel is a deliberate melee tank, whose heavyweight abilities reward investment and careful timing.
Each of her abilities is channeled, and gain strength as it charges up to maximum. Upon activating an ability, its target indicator begins to light up. Pressing the ability hotkey a second time activates the ability. This can be done at any time, but doing it at maximum charge gives Yrel the maximum benefit possible for the ability. Yrel cannot attack and moves at reduced speed while channeling an ability.
Trait - Divine Purpose - Activable trait that makes Yrel's next basic ability cast instantly at maximum channel effectiveness. Resembles
Göttliche Bestimmung
.
Q - Vindication - Yrel acts as a conduit of light. Upon releasing her channel, she releases an explosion of light that damages enemies and heals allies. Channeling this ability further increases the damage and healing.
W - Righteous Hammer - After readying herself, she swings her Hammer of the Naaru at enemies and knocks them back. Channeling this ability increases damage and knockback. At max channel, it also stuns enemies. Resembles
Hammer der Rechtschaffenen
.
E - Avenging Wrath - Divine wings manifest and she's able to leap to enemies, damaging and slowing them down on landing. Channeling increases the distance she can travel. Resembles
Zornige Vergeltung
.
R1 - Ardent Defender - Upon activation, a barrier appears around Yrel, and she absorbs incoming damage around her, healing for a percentage of damage dealt. Can be cast while channeling basic abilities. Resembles
Unermüdlicher Verteidiger
.
R2 - Sacred Ground - Purifies the ground around her, granting Armor to Yrel while she stands in it. Resembles
Weihe
.
Talents
Many of Yrel's talents include references to abilities from World of Warcraft:
Gabe der Naaru
,
Hand der Freiheit
,
Göttliches Ross
,
,
Attacking While Invisible
and even a Bubble Hearth talent!

Yrel's Story
Perhaps one of the most important and least talked about characters in Warlords of Draenor lore,
Exarchin Yrel
is a major figure of the Draenei inhabiting Draenor. Yrel starts off in the Warlords of Draenor storyline as a priestess of Karabor (the
Der Schwarze Tempel
prior to
Illidan Sturmgrimm
's arrival in the true storyline) where she is freed by heroes of the Alliance and Horde. Following the events of the WoD intro and
Schattenmondtal
questlines, Yrel rises up to lead the Draenei people on Draenor where she works with the Alliance to overcome the Iron Horde and eventually the Burning Legion. You can learn more about the expansion in our
Warlords of Draenor Guide
.
Yrel has been in the news recently for her datamined appearance in the Mag'har Orc Recruitment scenario. We've put the summary under the spoiler tag:
Eitrigg suggests to Sylvanas that they should collect upon a debt from Draenor, and we then take a fragment of the shard Garrosh used in Warlords of Draenor to travel back in time. But first, we must seek the assistance of the Bronze Dragonflight again and defeat Echoes of Garrosh and Gul'dan.
Once back in Draenor, we find that Mag'har Orcs are being hunted by the Lightbound and forced to worship the Light. The Lightbound are a group of fanatical Draenei and converted Orcs that appear to be the AU version of the Lightforged Draenei. Even though at the end of Warlords of Draenor, the Draenei and Orcs pledged to work side-by-side, after the defeat of the demons, the Draenei is trying to bend the will of everyone to worship the Light. Their battle cries have parallels to the fanaticism of Xe'ra in Patch 7.3.
In this scenario, we meet Geya'rah, the AU daughter of Durotan and Draka. Durotan has been killed by the Lightbound while Draka runs a Garrison. It is alluded that the son of Warchief Grommash in this timeline, has joined the Lightbound as well. Throughout the scenario, we receive hints that the Light, when unchecked, can destroy the land and lead to destructive fanaticism. It is implied that the destruction of Draenor, visible in a damaged map of Draenor, is caused by the Light.
The scenario ends when the Lightbound, led by High Exarch Yrel, attack Grommash's forces directly. Grommash sacrifices himself, buying time for the remaining Mag'har to escape through the portal to our main timeline.
Now it is worth remembering that Grommash was originally the
leader
of the Iron Horde, the enemy of the Draenei, whose actions led to Yrel's imprisonment in Tanaan Jungle and death of her sister in Shadowmoon Valley. It does make sense why Yrel would not trust Grommash completely, especially if she learned what happened to the Draenei at the hands of the Orcs in the main timeline.
If you want to see the exact dialogue in the scenario, check out the links in our
Battle for Azeroth Lore Roundup

If you prefer your lore in video form,
Nobbel87
is covering the story of Yrel:
New Map: Alterac Pass
Alterac Pass is an 3 lane Battleground modeled after the Alterac Valley battleground in World of Warcraft which will release on
June 19
. Players will side with the Alliance or Horde and must take down the enemy General,
Drek'Thar
or
Vanndar Sturmlanze
to win the Battleground!
In the middle of the center lane, there's a tribute to the classic "Bridge of Death!" In addition, the minions are even Alliance and Horde flavored.
Similar to
Drek'Thar
and
Vanndar Sturmlanze
in World of Warcraft, they will start off with bonus armor (Damage Reduction) while more structures are active. As you take down the Keep in each lane, the Commander's will start taking more damage and be easier to take down. And of course, if you take the General outside of his Keep circle, he will leash and begin to heal.
Blizzard has released some other screenshots of the map.
