How to Upgrade Legendaries to Rank 5 and 6 in Patch 9.1: Chains of Domination
24.06.2021 um 10:00
Patch 9.1 launches next week, and along with the new activities, locations, and class changes, players will be able to upgrade their legendaries to Rank 5 and 6. We've been busy looking at the PTR to find out exactly what players will need to upgrade their legendaries, from the new
currency to crafting higher item level bases using
Rudiment der Ursprünge
. While this covers upgrading to Rank 4 and 5, if you're a returning player still getting caught up on Shadowlands, check out our Legendary Crafting Guide to learn more about creating fantastic armor in Shadowlands!

Upgrading Your Legendary to Rank 5 and 6
Legendary items can be upgraded to item level 249 at Rank 5 and item level 262 at Rank 6 in Patch 9.1, although they require slightly different materials than previous upgrades.
instead of Soul Ash. They still come from Torghast, though you'll need to clear layers 9 through 12 to obtain them.
This means crafting new legendaries won't impact your ability to upgrade existing ones to higher ranks.
Item level 249 (Rank 5) and 262 (Rank 6) base items.
These are created the same way as other base items, along with a
Rudiment der Ursprünge
optional reagent, which increases a crafted base by 2 ranks - crafting a Rank 3 base with the optional reagent results in Rank 5, and crafting a Rank 4 base with the optional reagent creates a Rank 6.
Rudiment der Ursprünge
are also crafted.

Creating a Vestige requires 40
obtainable from a variety of activities, such as
Mittlerkopfgeld: Hungriger Behemoth
, rare mobs drops, and looting treasures around Korthia.

The reputation requirement means you'll need to do a little bit of questing before the new legendary bases can be crafted, and you'll need to complete a
campaign quest step
involving the Runecarver to actually use the optional reagent slot, although those requirements won't take as long as gathering enough Soul Cinders to actually craft a Rank 5 or 6 legendary. Also keep in mind that the Vestiges and Korthite Crystals are only needed if you are crafting legendary bases yourself. The Rank 5 and 6 bases can be bought and sold on the Auction House, so you can still opt to skip the crafting and purchase one instead. Someone will still have to get the reputation and collect the crystals, just not you!
Along with the appropriate base, you will need 1,100
for Rank 5 and another 550 to reach Rank 6. Like previous legendary upgrades, you can skip stages and craft or upgrade to the desired Rank with the correct amount of currency - the chart below shows the
TOTAL amount of currency needed
to craft a Legendary of at each rank. If you are upgrading from a lower rank, you'll be able to subtract any currency that you've already paid, because you've already paid it.
For example, to upgrade a Rank 3 legendary to Rank 6, you would need the a Rank 6 base, 1,950
, and 1,650
. This will save you gold/crafting materials in the long run, since you won't need a Rank 4 or Rank 5 base item.
Soul Cinder Drops Per Week
These projections are estimates, as we still do not have a complete understanding of the 9.1 content unlock cycle, but right now we believe you'll be able to earn
up to 510
once all Torghast layers are unlocked:
from completing layers 9-12 in both wings of Torghast.
Completing higher layers will award currency from lower ones, so each layer does not need to be run individually. That said, we do not currently know if all layers will be available at once or reasonably completable with Season 1 gear.
from the weekly Tormentors of Torghast event in Korthia.
from the bi-weekly assaults (50 each) in Korthia.
Therefore, it would require
worth of Cinders for a Rank 5 Legendary, or
to get enough Cinders to go straight to Rank 6. This is, however, predicated on all activities and all three new layers of Torghast being available at the same time, so it doesn't necessarily mean you will have Rank 5 or 6 legendaries by the third or fourth week of Patch 9.1.
