Can Azerite Armor in 8.1 have the same trait in two rings?
No, the spec traits will always be different. This means that there will be three spec specific traits on every piece of Azerite Armor in 8.1. This new outer ring will also have no generic traits. There will be more choices, more access to traits you want.
Would you change the Azerite system to have traits be saved per spec, rather than per item?
Azerite Armor is a lot less rigid than other items such as weapons. If you're swapping for DPS to Tank, you'll need to get a whole new set of weapons and trinkets, compared to Azerite Armor where you just need to go to the Reforger and swap your traits. If you're changing your specs often, there's always the generic traits if you don't want to respec often.
It should be just a few % less effective. Unless you're pushing World Firsts, you can just use a 370 rather than a 385 but it should get better as the availability of Azerite Armor should increase.
If you look back compared to Legion, it's much easier to swap between specs now but they still want to preserve a benefit to someone who mains an Assassination rogue versus a rogue who swaps to it whenever they feel its best.
How does restricting Azerite Trait reforging improve gameplay?
If you want to change specs in a long term sense, they should be ready options. They want to avoid it becoming an extra set of talents with a lot of extra barrage. The system is designed to restrict constant switching of Azerite Traits.
Will there be new traits on Mythic+ Azerite Armor in 8.1?
Yes. All existing items will have the new ring which may include some of the new traits.
Any plans on changing the way to acquire Azerite Gear from Mythic+?
They're not happy with how it works but are looking for a middle ground solution. The most common solution recommended is Azerite Armor drops from Mythic+ dungeons but that benefits you only if you spam run Mythic+ and that's a small section of the playerbase. In raids and PvP, Azerite Armor is already limited as you only get one chance per boss/loot. But the current system is not great and they're discussing solutions to the problem with some ability to target a specific Azerite Armor.
What's the deal with traits that require third party sites to explain what they actually do?
They're going to look at ways they explain Azerite Traits in game, such as
that are super vague, so you can understand what every trait does in game.
Will you be retiring any of the older traits in 8.1?
They're adding a large number of new traits. They will also be retiring some specific Aerite Traits that are less successful or not great design -- too simple or no way to tune it without breaking things.
Is Tank balance being looked at?
They agree that DK and Brewmaster are a little too survivable while Prot Warrior and Guardian Druid are a little weak. They're hoping to get some changes to the PTR in the not too distant future.
They're also looking at Tank Damage, look at them on the PTR.
What spec and talent changes can Resto Shaman expect?
Healer balance is also on the radar. Shaman excel at stacked clumped of people but then you also have your spread out fights. But if players feel that Shamans are so far behind on those types of fights that they need to bring in an undergeared other spec, then that's something that needs to be addressed. Disc is versatile, does more damage and does the same amount of HPS -- that's a problem. They're looking at the Tides of Vengeance patch to update the healer balance.
In the current PvP meta of everyone having self healing and insane burst damage/healing, unholy DKs and Aff Warlocks feel left in the dust.
Their survivability is also on the radar. Rot comps should be a viable strategy. Affliction was made more single target based in Battle for Azeroth and maybe should be more multi-DoT based, similar to how it used to be.
Keep an eye out for Honor Talent changes on the PTR.
Will the new Warfront run its cycle in parallel with the current one?
Yes, they'll run in parallel. Alliance will be attacking Darkshore
with no contributions. With two pieces of parallel content, you could be contributing in one warfront while attacking in another.
Why can't you queue as raid groups for Warfronts?
This was made midway through Warfront development. It's about the pacing of the Warfront experience. With a full raid group working together, what happened was you'd steamroll the map objectives. They may add more premade tuned "Heroic Warfronts" in the future?
Do you have any plans to re-adjust the Death Knight starting area for new Allied Races?
Not currently. Not having the option available for Allied Races at all is a DK sucks and there's nothing to announce right now but it's something they want to address in the future.
Any plans to address the unlocks for Legion Allied Races?
In Tides of Vengeance, they plan to double the reputation from Legion World Quests so you can get it faster.
How do you think the Siege of Zuldazar raid layout will affect the World First race since Alliance and Horde have a different boss order?
They're thinking of calling the raid Battle for Dazar'alor, but still in discussion. The 9 bosses in the raid may be in the same order for both faces. The Alliance may get to play their 6 bosses in order, and then get the flashback of what the Horde did for the final 3 bosses. The Horde may get to do the first 3 bosses, get their flashback to see what the Alliance did, then finish with the last 3 Horde bosses.
Raid trinkets in Uldir have been terrible in comparison to trinkets outside of the raid. Better in 8.1?
There's more trinkets in Battle for Dazar'alor. The community values a lot of trinkets from Mythic+, World Quests and Emissaries over raid trinkets. They try to make raid trinkets more flavorful which is more static and independent of player skill. They're not going to make raid trinkets less flavorful, but they need to be better at tuning.
Any plans to bring loot uniqueness back to raids?
It used to be that the best end game loot was raiding. Tier pieces were no longer the end game set of the raid, you generally got your tier within the first few weeks. It doesn't mean that they can't make smaller two piece sets or something with bonus effects such as Drape of Shame from Legion.
Any plans to make Island objectives more varied?
Rewards are too formulaic right now and killing rares for it alone is boring. Azerite will always been the goal, but they're looking to add more unique objectives on the Islands. One new thing in Islands is Extractors which give a slow steady trickle of Azerite.
You said that RP servers would not be affected by sharding, but they are. What's going on?
Sharding is necessary to keep server stability. Servers are larger than they're been in the past. Normally, the sharding tries to keep people from the same server together to balance population. However, War Mode tries to keep faction blance equal more than anything else.
They can look at the numbers and look into it, and if they think it works will look at tech solutions to make it happen.
You hinted at a change to the Group Finder for Mythic+
Yes. There's some design questions such as what key you're looking for.
Any plans to make the War Campaign more alt friendly?
Right now, the War Campaign chapters gives almost no reputation when you complete them. They'll be adding a large amount of reputation to these chapters. In addition, Horde and Alliance assaults will be available.
They're also looking at Flight Paths -- Possibly a book that you can buy at max level that unlocks every flight path for your alts.
