Mechagon in 8.2 Rise of Azshara - New Zone with Secrets and Exploration

Patch 8.2 introduces two new and wildly different outdoor zones, full of surprises and rewards. While Nazjatar continues the main story of
Battle for Azeroth
, Mechagon tells a more whimsical story of exploration, in contrast to the ominous machinations of Azshara, the Naga, and the Old Gods. While not a large zone, Mechagon is packed to the brim with dangerous devices and mechanical wonder, including a new faction of mechagnomes to befriend, outdoor zone to explore, 8 boss mega-dungeon to mastery, and an inexhaustible amount of grind! Rather than a curated questline, it's meant to be a huge sandbox playground of nonstop discovery.

Mechagon is the capital of the Mechagnomes, ruled by King Mechagon, a society where prestige is determined by the amount of robotic parts you have. It's a collect-a-thon zone of grind and discovery with a ton of rewards to unlock along the way, filled with mini-puzzles, and the most secrets per square inch of any area in the game. Some will be obvious, like a friendly trogg with pink bots in a cave who hates the color blue, you can get sprayed blue and go back to the trogg, who will then hate the color orange; you'll have to follow the pattern to see what happens!
Mechagon is all about building and tinkering. Your first goal is to help build up the city of Rustbolt, and projects are scattered throughout the island; while exploring you'll be able to scavenge and rebuild things like drills turrets to help defeat rares (or other players!).
Mechagon is a little bigger than the Timeless Isle, but not as vertical.
There will be little to no timegating, instead driven by player discovery and grind; the amount required to earn all rewards from the zone means you won't finish very quickly.
The story starts with the Prince of Mechagon explaining that his father, King Mechagon, has gone mad. You're then transported into the zone's fortress hub.
A new reputation is the Rustbolt Rebellion will be required to unlock flying. All the dialogue is very gnomish, and the mechagnomes themselves value replacing their fleshy parts with mechanical ones.
Mechagon is really whimsical, with a lot of character. Mechagnomes ride around in circular vehicles, with a lot of machinery and inventions to be found.
The zone is War Mode compatible, which should encourage a lot of active PvP combat for players who opt in, though NPCs within the hub will attack any troublemakers.
Most of the content is find-at-your-own-pace. You may try to rebuild something only to find that you can collect 9 different paint colors from different activities. You may start repairing a crazy robot, that turns out to be a giant spider bot mount!
Quests will not appear on the map, you will need to explore Mechagon to find new quests and objectives. After the introduction, most quests are resource hand-ins of mob and rare drops. In theory, the more you play and grind, the easier the zone becomes.
Three unique visitors will visit Mechagon every day, each providing a daily quest and changing the spawning of the zone. Completing their quests will be a good way to raise your Mechagon reputation.
A star on the map will represent rare spawns, which have different spawn timers, and may require secret ways to get them to spawn. You'll know that when you see a star on your map, there's a chance of something good that you can get out of it! Rare spawns are meant to be rare again, rather than the always active rares seen in most current zones, in order to incentivizes exploration and grind.
Even if you run out of objectives for the day, you can continue to grind to collect spare parts or schematic pieces for crafting and turn-ins within Mechagon. Many of them have interesting names like Experimental Adventurer Augment, Ultrasafe Transporter, Holographic Hearthstone, and Encrypted Radio Receiver, with effects we can only guess at right now!
The main reason to complete Mechagon content will be the meta achievement, which has a lot of parts!
While we don't have all the specifics yet, there's supposed to be a
of pets, mounts, toys, and new hunter tames throughout the zone.
You'll also be introduced to Pascal the Robot. You'll be able to collect schematics while questing to build him up further, and can then use the scrap and batteries you find around Mechagon to build stuff yourself.
The Mechano-Cat mount is one of the rewards from the grind in Mechagon. You can even customize your Mechano-Cat with stuff like painting their chassis different colors!
Operation: Mechagon is a 5 person, 8 boss mega-dungeon similar to the Karazhan revamp of patch 7.1. It will not have a Mythic+ version to start, though it will likely be split into two separate dungeons in patch 8.3 to enable Mythic+. Players enter through a trash compactor and make their way up into Mechagon city, which is populated by machinery, turrets, and mechagnomes.
Operation: Mechagon should be treated as a 5-man raid, instead of just a dungeon.
It will have strategic bosses that can't just be zerged down. Due to having little trash in the dungeon, the bosses need to be interesting to make up for it.
The second half of the dungeon is basically a gauntlet with few trash packs, but deadly events like spinning blades, conveyor belts, and flamethrowers.
A stealth section will require players to stand within vents to stay hidden, reminiscent of the baskets in Suramar.
Another section will be a bullet hell, with a lot of projectiles to dodge.
Loot in Operation: Mechagon is meant to be comparable to Mythic Karazhan from Legion. For reference, Karazhan released at ilevel 855-875, while Trial of Valor dropped at ilevel 855/870/885, which means we can assume Mechagon will be relative to Normal or Heroic Azshara's Palace. Mechagon will also have a separate lockout, just like Karazhan did.
A new type of set system will use conditional statements to allow players to customize their effect. Currently there are about 20 rings separated into two categories; the first are conditional triggers and the second are benefits. For example, your first ring might say "If your health falls below 50%..." and your second ring would add "... then, gain an absorption shield." With a wide variety of both types, this could allow players to mix and match to create the best effect for their situation, and could prove to be very powerful under the right circumstances, allowing players to setup defensive triggers to beat specific mechanics, or offensive ones that reapply constantly in response to a specific encounter mechanic.
The dungeon includes eight bosses, ending with the King of the Mechagnomes.

Unique Trinket: Pocket-Sized Computational Device
One of the more interesting items in Mechagon is a customizable trinket with three different colored sockets which can be filled with matching color Punch Cards, like gems, that are obtained from questing, reputation, and Mechagon itself. Each slot appears to be themed; Red are proc or on-use effects, Yellow are statistical increases, and Blue add utility effects which will likely be helpful both in and out of the dungeon itself.
Punch Cards revealed so far include:
Subroutine: Overlock: Chance on damage or healing to gain 10% haste.
Harmonic Dematerializer: On Use: Deal 7,363 damage to target, and amp Harmonic Dematerializer's damage to similar targets.
Cyclotronic Blast: On Use: Channel a cyclotronic blast, dealing 21,010 damage every 0.5 sec for 2.5 sec. (Requires Revered with the Rustbolt Resistance faction)
Forceful Adaptable Logic Board: +311 Critical Strike, +93 Versatility
Forceful Refined Logic Board: +311 Critical Strike, +93 Mastery
Optimized Efficient Logic Board: +311 Mastery, +93 Haste
Supplemental Oxygenation Device: Increases your lung capacity by 1000%.
Remote Circuit Bypasser: Gain a Remote Circuit Bypasser, empowering your ability to manipulate Mechagon foes.
Friend or Foe Identifier: Track nearby Mechanical creatures.
One of the new Azerite traits found on Mechagon gear increases the effectiveness of Red and Yellow Punch Card effects by 50%.
Flying in Mechagon
Pathfinder Part 2 will start with the launch of 8.2, requiring
with new reputations -
(Nazjatar-Horde), though there will likely also be extra achievement requirements tied to Nazjatar and Mechagon, similar to previous expansions. It is expected to take a couple weeks, and once earned flying will be enabled on all outdoor zones, including Mechagon and Nazjatar.
