Patch 7.1 Preview: Suramar Campaign Quests

continues in Patch 7.1 with a nine-week quest series culminating in the
achievement and the
Manasäbler des Arkanisten
mount. This quest series is open for testing on the 7.1 PTR so we played through the entire questline! If you want to experience the Nightborne story at your own pace, be warned there are general spoilers in here.
This was an early PTR preview and some details have changed when 7.1 went live. Please visit the

Each part of the storyline rewards an item ranging from ilvl 830 to ilvl 850. In addition, the Nightfallen sell the new reputation item

First Arcanist Thalyssra has received dark tidings regarding the Nightfallen rebellion and requires your assistance.
At first all looks fine. The Nightfallen are doing well in Shal'Aran; they're restored to their original forms and the cave is filled with refugees and trappings of luxury.
However, communication with the Waning Crescent has ceased (
), and when you investigate, you find many citizens captured or killed. Suramar is infested with even more demons than before, including ones that will root you in place and instantly remove Masquerade.
The Waning Crescent teleport has been destroyed and your first order of business is to help the inhabitants escape, many of whom you met through initial Suramar quests. The Waning Crescent innkeeper is killed, but the rest of her family is safe, Matron Scarleth and her girls capably fought off the demons and will go to Shal'Aran but are in no need of rescuing, Master Devlyn won't leave unless he takes his priceless vase; Thorvos won't leave his son Valanth behind.
You help them escape in one of the gondolas and then set up contact with Oculeth, who opens a new portal to Shal'Aran at the top of the Evermoon Terrace.

Members of the Nightborne are defecting from the army (
), and Victoire brings you news that citizens have been chained together (
), taken to Astravar Harbor, and put on boats going to a demonic isle.
You must rush to save them (
), disguising yourself as a prisoner and freeing the citizens from the demons (
). This rewards an ilvl 830 relic.
Ly'leth has made contact. First Arcanist Thalyssra needs your help to act on this new information.
Ly'leth alerts you to the news that Vanthir is being made a public example of in the center of Suramar. He's been placed in a magical prison where he withers away in front of the entire city. You must discover Vanthir's location (
) and save him before it's too late (

). This rewards ilvl 835 shoulders or chest.
There is a holograph of Ly'leth inside Shal'Aran and for the first five weeks of the chain, she has a new message for you. She even updates you on the Nightborne's new obsession with Pepe:
No movement just yet. I suspect Elisande is quite comfortable with the current climate in the city. It is quiet. Perhaps our people are too afraid to cry out after the atrocity at the Waning Crescent...
I have not been able to locate Vanthir. His name is conspicuously absent from our discussions.
As an amusing piece of trivia, Elisande is the least punctual person I have ever had the misfortune to serve.

As you requested, I have inquired about the Felsoul Hold situation. It apepars that your efforts have slowed the trafficking significantly. I regret to say that it will likely not stop without further intervention.
There is some talk of a sweep for deserters after the events of Astravar Harbor. Advise your people to keep an eye out. More defectors may be coming your way.
In lighter news, there is a new fashion trend sweeping the palace. There is an obsession with placing ornamental orange birds on their heads. Baffling, truly.

Things are...growing tense. The Dusk Lily display really rattled the nobility. They are not in agreement of how to handle the situation but violence is most assuredly an option. I worry for those still trapped in the city.
I have caught wind of some movement in the Promenade - they may be reinforcing the area. Something worth keeping an eye on.
I will report in when I have more information.
Your new allies have not gone unnoticed.
I do not know where you found such a band but I had to hide my pleasure at their progress infiltrating the Promenade.
The mood here is increasingly disturbed. The nobles no longer have any illusion that they can avoid a fight. Elisande will not allow them to stand idly by while Suramar is overrun by Outlanders.
I would not assume victory just yet, my friend.

An Elven Problem
The Alliance and Horde have arrived in Suramar. First Arcanist Thalyssra needs your help in providing an introduction.
In this chapter, you meet up with Tyrande Whisperwind, Lady Liadrin, and Veressa Windrunner, who have set up a military encampment outside the city gates. Tensions are high as the different elven cultures meet the Nightborne, their distant relations. It's especially emotional for Tyrande who was born in Suramar and is distrustful of Thalyssra.
You help set up camp, clean out demons in the Grand Promenade (

), and make contact with Night Elf and Blood Elf spies in the city (
). You then defeat the Arm of the Magistrix (

). This series rewards ilvl 735 legs or boots.
I am glad to see a friendly face on this battlefield.
It is...hard...for me to once again walk in Suramar. Ten thousand years have passed since my feet last felt the grass of this land.
Back then, we were fleeing the Burning Legion.
I never believed I would return to the place of my birth to wrest it from the grasp of those I once believed were my people.
Your leaders need to get their heads in the game.
Vereesa is so obsessed with her desire for revenge against the Horde that we cannot trust our flank to her.
Tyrande is a sentinel. She knows little of war of this type of battlefield. While her scouting is useful she should rescue the Kal'dorei from the main assault.
My blood knights are the only ones prepared to carry the weight of this conflict.
First Arcanist Thalyssra requires your aid in helping equip and train her growing rebel army.
Everyone feels overworked so you must help all the NPCs out! First off, Shal'Aran is overflowing with refugees but does not have enough arcan'dor fruit to feed everyone. You go to Azsuna with Valtrois to redirect the magical Ley Lines to Shal'Aran (
Oculeth ex Machina
). In this quest series, Valtrois is aided by Stellegosa, and the two bicker as to who is better at magic and placing leylines (

). However when the quest is complete, they've become good friends and swap compliments on their abilities (

). This rewards an ilvl 840 trinket or ring.
Next up, the Alliance and Horde have problems in their camps (
). There are Nightborne infiltrators you must unmask (

), as well putting an end to the Alliance and Horde pulling pranks on each other. For example, in the Horde camp you will find a golden disk called "Replacement Sunwell."
Your final task is to whip the Nightfallen Army into shape. VIctoire is displeased with their fighting prowess and sends them to Black Rook Hold to fight against Ravencrest's ghosts (

). This rewards ilvl 840 shoulders or wrists.
When you return, the pit lord Rozzeleth is attacking Meredil (
) and you must put your newly-traiend army to the test.
March on Suramar
The combined might of the elven armies stand ready to assault the city of Suramar. They need only you to lead them.
Tyrande, Liadrin, and Vereesa follow Thalyssra's plan to storm Suramar City (

) . Khadgar is very impressed that Thalyssra got all of three of them to agree!
You then fight through the Grand Promenade and the Concourse of Destiny with the combined support of the Alliance, Horde, and Nightfallen. The Kirin Tor set up a base on the second floor of the Harbor (

) and Oculeth creates a brand-new teleport to Shal'Aran (
). This rewards an ilvl 840 helm or cape.
Khadgar and Oculeth become good friends and Oculeth is impressed by Khadgar's tale of moving Dalaran!
The insurrection is ready to assault the gates of the Nighthold.
Elisande insults the three elven leaders and casts a powerful timelapse spell on the rebellion, freezing them in place (
Tore der Nachtfestung
). Only you and Khadgar make it out in time as you were not on the front-lines.
Kaldorei? You disgrace a glorious past, hiding in trees and cloaking yourselves in false piety. You have grown as savage as the trolls that skulk about your forest.
Quel'dorei? You are peasants playing at nobility, all too willing to mingle with lesser races that dilute your bloodline. You are unworthy of the name high elves.
Sin'dorei? Of all the elves, I thought you might understand the choice I made to save my people. Instead, you ally with misfits and monsters.
Each of you has debased your proud lineage. Each of you has forgotten the ancient power that is our birthright.
You both venture forth into the bubble to pull out Tyrande but this is too risky of a strategy to save everyone. Thalyssra then points out that Ly'leth's encoded messages have recently stopped and fears the events are related. As you retrieve her messages, you learn that Ly'leth sat in on new council meetings (
). She warns you against fighting at the main gate, but that there may be an unprotected entrance under the palace by the Sanctum of Order. Her message is abruptly cut off.
Together with Valtrois, you investigate the barrier underneath the Sanctum of Order (

). This magical barrier is not being powered by the Nightwell; instead Elisande is channeling the power of nearby ley lines. After investigating the ley line (

), Valtrois starts working on a plan to take the barrier down. This rewards ilvl 845 boots or chest.
Breaking the Nighthold
It is time to launch the final assault on the Nighthold's defenses.
Ly'leth has been taken captive by the evil new First Arcanist, Andaris Narassin (

). This is likely a distant relative of Athrikus Narassin, the Highborne behind

, a very challenging classic quest series in Darkshore.
You go with Thalyssra to save Ly'leth, but you Withered army crumbles against the Nightborne's fel magic. After saving Ly'leth's terrified staff (

), you begin to research defenses against fel magic and testing the new methods in Felsoul Hold (
Weiter, immer weiter...
). Meanwhile, Oculeth has you survey the Terrace of Order for data (
) and gather some notes from his old workshop for further research (
). You are then ready to take a stand against the Felborne (

). This rewards an ilvl 845 relic.
As Strong As Our Will
With the Alliance and Horde forces neutralized, the Nightfallen will need your help in raising a new, unconventional army.
Valtrois' plan is to disrupt several leylines at once, which will cause the barrier to fall. After placing the disruptors (
Ich lasse das einfach mal hier
), travel to the Sanctum and secure the area. However, this backfires and you are instead ported to a different area of the city, surrounded by guards (
Eine Bresche in das Sanktum
). With the telemancy orbs and help of the fel-resistant Withered, you fight your way through to the Sanctum of Order. Andaris' shield is vulnerable to the Withered and they drain her shield.
The story ends with Khadgar and Thalyssra waiting outside the entrance to the Nighthold. They tell you, the hero, to return with a group of champions to break down the time barrier and free the trapped Alliance and Horde. This rewards ilvl 850 legs or hands.
Khadgar knowingly tells you "The Withered won't last long in there. Gather an elite group of champions to fight your way through. I'm sure you're familiar with such tactics! We'll be right behind you, of course."
There are still several unresolved plot threads, like the fate of Lady Ly'leth, but they will have to wait for a future patch.
