I remember farming the eggs for the December holiday event for a day in the summer. I hate those eggs. They take so much work to get so few. And this was long enough ago that the overpricing was only 5g. Now, the price can be insanely high at the beginning of the holiday, but I have too many alts to even care about farming and selling stacks of five.
As an avid mount collector the prices for these vendor mounts get more and more discouraging :(. I feel like most mounts should be able to be obtained without needing to farm mountains of gold just to get them. I'm really hoping they'll lower the prices drastically by the time 8.2 goes live so more people can enjoy the new mounts!
I farmed eggs a few years ago and still have extra mounts on a bank alt -- I've tried to sell them before (in WoD, I think) but never was able to at a price I liked. I think duping mounts was still a thing then, so my server had a lot on the AH for cheap. I may try again soon.
I have never been into collecting mounts when they are a straight up gold sink. I actually rather enjoyed the WoD ones you could get through the Stable. It was a fun challenge, but hunting super-rare spawns or shelling out gold just don't appeal to me. As another amateur gold-making enthusiast, I think the prices for those new mounts is still way too steep at 50k, let alone 90k! Collecting is not for me, unless it's cold hard cash (and WoW Tokens). If the mounts were in the ballpark of 5-10k I might consider it if there was a model or colour I really liked, but even then my luxury spending has always been very low.For professions, I never saw enough of a margin in crafting on my server to really bother ranking up the recipes. I did max cooking and get the rank 3 recipes, but by the time I managed it there was so much competition that the markets were already flooded and I was always better off just selling the raw fish, etc. The planned reset with 8.2 seems to have confirmed my decision as a wise one. Not only will the new system kill sales of present items, but it will also cause a big hit to the materials markets. I too understand the perceived need on Blizzard's part to curtail the amount of gold floating around, but I think they are trying to do too much too fast. So many other aspects of the game are struggling already, that throwing the economy into confusion is only making everyone suffer even more. Their current strategy is not much affecting the serious gold-makers, but it has seriously cause issues for those (like myself) who don't feel equal to tasks like cancel scans, automated buyouts or speculation markets. I am happy to make good money on the materials I gather as I travel around, occasional nice item drops or even taking advantage of special holiday markets (Naxxy in particular made me several hundred thousand gold the first year it was available), but the grind of logging in every day just to run TSM functions for an hour is not my cup of tea. I'm actually getting squeezed from both ends because while I don't spend all that much, the big fish are making it impossible for me to compete for the scarce amount of gold players seem willing to spend these days.
As far as holiday items, I'm not sure if it counts, but I was able to farm and sell a handful of Minion of Grumpus mounts after the vent was over, for about 60K each. Commenting on professions in general, I've been really unhappy with them for a few expansions now. Really seems like the only way to make money with any consistency on my realm is via herbing. It's pretty hard to sell them though without having to constantly cancel and repost your auctions. Gear crafting professions are just a gold sink, with BoE item levels so much lower than WQ gear, etc. they're only good for generating enchant mats.
I had fun farming eggs with My all my chars, even tho the cities were higly populated xD, The new mount looks cool, but the price is a little bit "EXHOBIRTATING", i really hope its a placeholder for now, or that at least they make gold farming a little bit more easy, on next patch.
At least on my server (Silver Hand) the Abyss Shatter is a non-starter. Though I have quite a few the crystals the return on shattering is a loss, and selling the essences and dust is a rarity.
When I finally got my second binding, it took a while to get all the arcane crystals to make Thunderfury. I believe ended up with more than 3000 thorium ore
getting arcane crystals is such a pain in the ass
WTF? Greater Flask? I get having new health potions, but new stats pots and flasks as well? Any news on new foods, or anything cool from other professions? Or is it still just alchemy to get some gold?
Honestly, lvling a profession seems really easy. I got my alch maxed in less than a week of casually herbing around from time to time. Don't really care about how the recipes are obtained nor if they require you to know older ones but what they r doing seems like an easy way to catch up. Mounts tho, don't get it why they r so expensive, id rather save gold for brutosaur if this is the case.
Didn't know arctic fur sold so well. I've been keeping lots of stacks just sitting in my bank.
There is already too many expensive mounts and not enought money :( Collecting mounts is only thing i am doing in WoW but i have hard times with these expensie one.
While I understand potions and flasks being completely outdated with a new expansion, I agree it is a bit disappointing not having them be part of crafting the new ones. Things like this make it very difficult for smaller guilds.
Before BfA, I could sell enchants, and make enough profit to supply raiding consumables for my guild, as well as buy tokens off the AH to pay my sub. Now, it's not even enough to do either. It's bad for enchanting, but for alchemy it's worse (at least on my server). Pots or flasks are only profitable when you get bonus procs, and with the "tools of the trade", the values have dropped further. Hearing that the new recipes are essentially treated as a "catch-up" mechanism, like everything else now, is another bummer. More competition for old herbs, but no requirement for the old recipes. It just makes the effort you put in to grinding the recipe level ups feel useless. It's hard enough to break even now, and I simply don't have the time to farm that I used to. It just feels the focus is on the new- new players, new characters, new content, without giving thought to the old players, old characters, and the time put into old content.
Loved farming the eggs again this year! Never get tired of seeing an egg spawn in a clump of grass! I'm diabetic so getting to eat as much chocolate as I want in-game is a happy day for this gnome. So nice to see new items added to a holiday. The hearthstone animation is adorable for sure! I would only make one suggestion to Blizzard. If we put forth the effort to farm the eggs then we should be able to use that hearthstone with it's own cool down instead of a shared cool down like all the rest. Just a thought....
Good luck all)
