why not put marks on new players ?
Ok ok ok. Are there any benefits of becoming a Guide Mentor? So far it looks kinda like taking work from Blizzard Support.
Would like it if you see what Classes a Mentor has on max Level to ask Class/Spec related questions
Most of the people who actually want to take the time to help newcomers to the game are not the CE/hardcore M+/hardcore PVPers. They're probably what most of you gatekeeping jerks would call "casuals" because they don't like the high end content you do. I really don't get the requirements on this TBH. Except the 3000 quest and Terrific Trio I suppose, those do imply you've played the game long enough to know most of the ins and outs.
TLDR: Joined in 2018 and based on my experience the achievement requirements for the mentors are fine since M+ and mythic raiding is not what a new player struggles with at the start. As someone who joined in WoW in March of 2018, I can say the comments asking to change the requirements to high achievements like Cutting Edge, Glad, and Keystone Master are a massive joke. When I first started playing it took me a VERY long time to realize that mailboxes are in front of major buildings. Yes, I am admitting I had no idea how to use in-game mail for months, it took a lot longer to learn how to use the AH and even just trade with other players. Fast forward 3 months when I finally hit 110 (leveled via questing without looms) I honestly thought the game entirely was WQs, farming mobs to level professions and pet battles. I had no idea how to use the LFG finder for pre-made groups. I was a heroic dungeon and LFR hero until I finally I was showed how to join a normal Halls of Valor and when I was invited to a +2 Maw of Souls. I can say that both that normal raid and +2 were the most stressful thing to be in as a new player because I had no add ons and I didn't understand common WoW terms like: CC, Rez, interrupt, SIM, pug, BOP, etc. To get better as a player I needed someone to walk through my spellbook with me and explain how my passive abilities worked and how to properly use my CDs, or even to tell me what my CD's were because I had no idea. In the start BFA I raided with a group that is a NORMAL progression community that was progging NORMAL Uldir. This is where I learned a lot about the game. I was grey parsing in normal and at the time I had no idea what logs even were. By the end of Uldir, I was 2/8M and I got AOTC with a Ragnaros guild I pugged. Being a new player I was unaware of the negative stigma of this Latin American realm, I was just happy they hadn't kicked me for messing up and dying early a couple times. Where I am today, I am 11/12M 2.1K io and I have been with the same guild since BoD. I have talked to some of the veteran/gladiator/Hall of Fame players about my experience as a new player and they were shocked things like normal progression guilds exist and no idea what it feels like to truly be lost in this massive game. There is a major disconnect from high end players and people who struggle in heroic dungeons.
"I've been playing WoW for 10+ years. Let me show you the ropes.""But do you raid, do M+, or rated PvP?""Uh... Not anymore, but those really aren't important to teaching new players how to--""BEGONE, PLEB. ONLY THE ELITE CAN TEACH."
I hope you will only be assigned with players of your class so you can help with rotation/talents/legendaries because I dont know anything about uhhh like... enh shamans
Those saying require AotC are just off.. yes they need to have completed achievements and made max on multiple toons (preferably both sides)When shadowlands drops and new players come do you honestly think that a mythic raider or high end keystone pusher or such is going to take time off from pushing to help the guide new players? In most cases those same players saying need xx completed to guide new players are the same players that cant be bothered to help new playersWhat they really need is someone with patience (like someone that can go through lfr without screaming at everyone) but actually tries to help people learn rather than someone that just says get good newb kbai
System is pretty irrelevant to me, I'll still answer people who are confused or have a question about something in Trade Chat because it's a nice thing to do.
Shouldn't a guide be a semi-advanced player at least? If a new player is talking to a guide about PvP but the guy is just started playing 2 months ago and managed to become a certified helper by being lowest dps in LFR and having a couple of 120s, no one is being helped. I think that at least 4 if not all 5 of the achievements should have to be met to ensure that the person you're going to for advice is not a total newb.
Seems to me that elitists here completly missed point of mentor system and just want shiny icon for them. I don't have curve or rival rating and you can be sure i know a lot after ten years of playing. I just play this game quite differenty than just hunt endgame every patch. And i actually don't care about icon. I helping to people even without system like that.
Giving advice to new players doesn't require rocket science.'So, what's your recommended strategy for Phase 3 on Mythic' is not a new player question. And in any case, the answer would be 'Go read the Boss Guide online at xyz website', ain't nobody gonna type out min-maxing advice and full strats ingame when the info is so widely available online. Most of the new player help in games includes pointing them towards useful resources that they may not be aware of (or were just too lazy to google). As someone who regularly helps new players, 80% of their questions are basic 'google it' type questions. Like:'Were can I bye hAirlooms?' - 'What level do I get a tiger pet?' - 'Where is xyz NPC for turnin? (Mankrik's Wife, anyone)' - 'How do I start Dalaran?'People who think new player questions will require Cutting Edge or Ranked Arena knowledge have clearly never helped new players before.
terrific trio is terrible benchmark, it should be one of each class capped.
I can already tell that Troll Mage is gonna be a popular guide.“Ey mon, take dis portal I opened for you to Dalaran Crater!Stay away from da voodoo!”
