Had an episode just after I started playing the game a few years ago.Was on my way to Stormwind on my lvl 10ish Human Female warlock wearing a red festival dress, when this lvl 70 Paladin rode by and opened a trade window and gave me 200 gold. "Your pretty"Then he just rode on and I have not spoken to him since.

Yeah, I've been that guy.Back in Early BC, I gave a guy 600g for his Epic Mount training, and although I did want the money back, he never repaid me. I was kind of dissatisfied, but when I look back on it now, I don't feel so bad. Not to say that I don't feel that great either. That would've helped me get my 280% Flying back in the day (I got it a few days before WoTLK).It was a stupid thing to do, probably.
I spent around 2000 gold on a lowbie i didin't even know once... i bought him lots of level 50 epix and sush.. dont ask why i have no idea XD.
I level quite a few alts, and always kept more than the average for the level in gold on them...in case I needed something off the AH or for training. But I always remember that new player looking for help in Desolace with a quest I was on, or the one I chatted with while waiting for a boat. The one thing they all had in common is that they were new to the game and didn't have any friends on the server yet, at least not influential ones. I always enjoy giving them a little something to help them on their way. Whether it is help finding a trainer or 20g for their mount when they only needed 2g.Sometimes I might even keep them on my friends list for a few weeks to watch them progress. They tend to remind me of the fun I had leveling my first character when it took 5 players to run Zul Farak or Sunken Temple. Before the game became a gold grind with dailies, running the same heroic or raid over and over and over.
The last time some newb hit me up for a couple free gold, I took him by the hand, led him to the herbalist and the miner trainer, and showed the kid how to farm herbs and gold in Elwynn Forest and Dun Morogh. He emailed me the next day, thanking me for showing him how he could make several gold each day.I had spent an amount of time on this that I could have farmed 200 gold in ... I still felt that time was well spent.
I've definitely tossed a few people some extra cash if I'm purchasing something in trade. And I find that tipping well applies to not only RL but in-game, as well. Now that I'm a Mage Enchanter, I get very excited when someone tips me for a port or an enchant. Now I'm saving up for the epic flying mount(on my refer-a-friend toon), and I seem to be taking 2 steps forward, 1 step backwards, as I end up spending little bits here and there for random things and repairs. I figured that if everyone in Trade were to give me a cool 10g, I could have the cash needed in about an hour. I wish "panhandler" was a recognized prof. haha
