1. Get Lockpicking tools and ECAC from the robot next to the quest giver.

2. travel south into the merchant coast, and board the ship at coord :64,45 - you can board from the front tip

3. on the first level down you can skill up your lockpicking to 5xlvl (ex. 17x5= 85)

3a. tip: find a spot where you can loot two or three footlockers, that way you don't have to move. don't worry about getting rat nova'd or frost nova'd

4. on the second level down open the chest, it will be empty, once you open it, polly will spawn, stealth and use your ECAC on polly, put ECAC into your hot bar. then defeat polly and loot treasure.

5. DO NOT loot the chest again, as polly will repsawn and KILL you.

How come whenever I open the chest, use the cracker to make him non-elite...however, I try to attack him and he's Immune.

EDIT: Figured out that he's immune to physical attacks since the new patch. You have to get a magic user to help you out (warlock, mage, etc.)

I reported a ticket about the immune to physical attacks and I was told that it was a known issue that is being worked on. Possibly just an poor response from the GM however if this was intential.

I completed this last night and the cracker worked fine. He just turns into a lvl 18 mob that is pretty easy to kill.

Actually you can get your LP skill up to 90 on the chests on the second floor :D

i got to 100, still green at 100, easy to grab a lot of skill up took a wile after 80's

Completed it at level 16, the earliest level you can get the quest.

On the top level

Boxes were orange till 30
Yellow till 60
Green till 100+

Two Debuffs can be recieved:
Rat Nova (turns you into a rat for 10 seconds dealing a very low ammount of damage)
Frost Hold (Frost Nova that freezes you in place for 10 seconds dealing a very low ammount of damage)

On the bottom level i stayed till i had 80/80 lockpicking and the main chest was green.

Parrot sees through stealth and targets you instantly, so no backstab possible.

I died, however hurried back and found the parrot still waiting for me in non-elite form. i stealthed up to it and killed it in a nailbiter.

you can level lockpicking using the chest used for this quest, as long as you stay out of polly's line of sight(it won't see you behind the barrels and boxes, and doesn't aggro in the traditional way)

It's the one and only pirate ship just south of Ratchet alongside the coast there. You can't miss it.

As I fed polly the cracker, I think his level bugged for me for some reason. His level went from skull, to 50 (yes, not skull, 50) 18, then back to 50 in about 1-2 seconds. Although it stopped at 50 I easily killed him at 19. Just wondered if this has happened to anybody... because it gave me a scare for a second. :P

I'm confirming that Polly will not attack you if you stay out of it's line of sight, and if you accidently jerk your character into it's sight, then use Vanish and Polly will back to it's spawn.

I also managed to level my lockpicking to 110/110 and the box was still green

The minimum lock picking skill required to open the objective chest is 10.

Also, Polly will attack other people standing near by. So if you have someone questing with you, warn them that a ?? elite is about to pop up before you can use your cracker.

Just this second done it, got lock picking up to 80, locks were still green ..but i picked them another 50 times with no increase from 80,

polly is easy, did this with my level 16 rogue.

bung the crackers at him he shrinks then just go at it ..i didn't do anything special. just attack.

also you can still lock pick whilst frozen or a rat,.:)

the reason you could not go further than 80 is because lockpicking is like any weapon skill. It has a maximum of your level times 5. Each time you level, you get five more points available to train up on. This is why a level 50 who decides to use a new style of weapon cannot hit very well. It's also why after fifty locks you still did not go above 80. 80 was your cap at 16.

you can unlock The Jewel of the Southsea at 40 lockpicking skill. It is also a good way to get your lock skill up, it lets you get your skill to 125, it goes gray at 125. But, The Jewel of the Southsea, goes gray at 150 if you would like to kill polly a few times. :) Hope this helped!

Did anyone get spells casted on them when getting the LP skill up on the 7 chest on the second floor

i got

Rat Nova - you turn into a rat
Frost Hold - the same thing as mages spell frost nova

If you forget the ECAC like I did the first time, prepare to fight Polly as a level 50.
You also won't get the item. :P

The leveling rate was about a skill up every time until 80. From 80-90 it varied between every one or two. 90-95 was every 2 or 3. 95-100 was about 6 boxes per skill up. Really not that bad if you just position yourself around the three boxes and continuously click with no town town.

Actually I lockpicked all the way up to 105, the chest was still green.
Great place for skillups, you can outrun Polly if you have to, but you'll take a beating. (If you wanted to go back for skillups that is)

Well what i did was i got my lockpicking to 80 using those chests in the second level. Then i went to the bottom and looted chest to find nothing. But if u dont move towards the big bird he wont attack you. so i stood there and i kept looting the chest and got my lockpicking up to 95 because it wouldnt go past 95. Take note that i was level 20 because i kept forgetting to do quest but i think it was best that i didnt do it because i got my lockpicking to 95 and i found no use for lockpicking until then.

As I discovered today, you can skill up using these boxes, even if you're a blood elf and have already finished the Greed quest. Quite handy.

Upon opening the Jewel of the Southsea:

The Jewel of the Southsea is empty, save for a few crumbs and a gigantic green feather.
*Polly Appears*
Polly yells: SQUAWK!
*Feed Polly E.C.A.C.*
*Polly becomes friendly*
Polly says: MmmmmMmmmm... Enormous chemically altered cracker....

This is how you do this quest and level up lockpicking as much as possible.

Grab Thief's tool, ECAC.
Go to the ship south of rachet.
When you are on top floor, go down one level and open the lockboxes(there are 7 right beside each other), level up til u are at lvl 80 lockpicking.
Go down 1 more level, open jewel of southsea. You should gain one level and Polly spawn, use ECAC, kill it, loot southsea treasure.

If you are not happy with 81 lock picking skill, heres what u need to look at.

Polly spawns in the northeast of the bottom room. He is level 50 without ECAC, to prevent aggro, use the pillar in the middle to LOS him.

So the best place for you to stand is Southwest of the room, make sure you are out of LOS of Polly.

Start re-opening Jewel of Southsea again, if you are not pulling aggro, you can re-open it til around 105 lockpick skill, it has a 5sec cd, once you are done, you can run out and hope Polly doesnt kill your sorry ass, or just wait for him to despawn.

I decided to lvl my lock picking on my rogue today, I never picked up this quest and I could still pick the boxes. So you don't need the quest to pick them and I'm not sure of the benefits of the quest if someone could explain the benefits of the quest that'd be cool.

Just to let people know, if u heave Glyph of Pick Lock, you can skillup youre lockpicking in no time, so if u heave the glyph u can cast Pick lock in 1.25sec instead of 5sec cast.
to do it fast, stand near 5 chestboxes and open them in a order.
I noticed that afther skill 100, u dont gain any more skillups but u still see it as green in the tooltip.

Side note :
Like most (if not all) class/profesions quests this one does NOT count for loremaster Achievement.
However it does count for 3000quests Achievement

lol..piece of cake if you guys go and get the glyph of lock picking..i just went there and keep clicking non-stop..lol..hit 105..went down to the bottom and keep clicking on that chest till it went 116 which only took a few mins..its still green but did'nt wanna skill already so just went to kill polly..while doing that make sure to stand far back..u wont wanna aggro the bird.. ^^ gd luck..

Get the minor Glyph of Lock Pick before starting this quest. It will save loads of time. :)

Just a quick note the ship ur looking for is south of racthet not the boat to booty bay. One idiot that read the tips above was looking on the booty bay boat lost.

I was lvl 17 when I tried this quest ...

1st of all the chest that makes Polly spawn really made Polly spawn... As a lvl ? angry little parrot ;)
Then for some reason it didn't attack me, so I could wait for the chest to "respawn" and lvl my LP to 85, sweet!
Then it got nasty, I hadn't picked up the E.C.A.C, and a #$%^ed of lvl ? isn't that fun.

Short story made even shorter, epic fail!

Do not use vanish after opening the box! Vanish and the E.C.A.C. share a cooldown!

Bring the Southsea Treasure back to Wrenix the Wretched in Ratchet. Do not forget to get an E.C.A.C. and Thieves' Tools from Wrenix's Gizmotronic Apparatus. You will need both of these items to complete your mission.

Beschreibung

I don't mean to scare you, <Name>, but the last five thieves I sent to steal the southsea treasure came back to me in pieces.

South along the coast you'll find Tide Razor, the southsea freebooter's ship. Nestled in the hold is the payoff - the southsea treasure. On the second level of that ship is the pirate's den, a place where they train all of their thieves.

Board that ship, steal the treasure, and bring it back to me. Use the pirate's den if you need to practice your thievery, but be careful!
