The implications for leveling, past content as well as future content are pretty mindboggling when you really stop to think about it.Are they really planning to go forward with a game that gives new players flying mounts at 60 and then takes them away at 90? That would make no sense and would be lousy for player retention. So then what? Take flying away from the game altogether? Remove flying mounts? What are they going to replace them with in all the old content that REQUIRED flying to be able to access or complete? Will they remove all the mounts people bought from the Blizzard Store? The ones they paid extra for past expansions in order to get? The reward mounts for meta achievements? If you get to keep mounts but can't fly them then what is the point? Will some players be able to fly but new players won't be able to do so?Either taxi services, teleports, etc to access much of old content is going to be required, or getting rid of that content completely. Which will mean some other way of leveling characters.Trying to go back and take away something you have made so integral to the game, used to sell the game, made quite a bit of money from is going to be really problematic and will inevitably have a negative impact on revenue, which they have apparently decided is acceptable. The timing just after we have seen the death of the most compelling villain of the last couple of expansions is probably the most puzzling. Why throw this in just before a patch that already feels anticlimactic? The worst part is that while Blizzard can apparently absorb the losses, I wonder if sites like Wowhead can do so as well. I truly hope so, you guys do a lot for this game.
If not being able to fly in Draenor is enough to make you quit... you've probably got a foot out the door anyway.I agree, though, that Draenor isn't much to look at or explore. I don't feel like I'm missing out on that cave I'm soaring over with Aviana's Feather, because chances are, it's either empty, has more copy-pasted enemies in it, or vendor trash "treasure."
I have another interesting approach to the bs excuse of Hazzikostas; They are concerned about how I get to that jumping puzzle treasure and how this affects my gaming experience. What if I don't want to reach that treasure at all? What if I just want to fly around instead? What if I want to reach the treasure by flying there? So instead of giving us the option to choose from 3-4 different scenarios, Blizzard tells me that only one way, THEIR chosen way, is what will make me happy.I thought MMOs are all about options and endless possibilities.-I'll just quote the most upvoted comment from the official forums on this subject;"Personally I think the real reason is that the game has such a lack of world content that they need you on the ground to make it more of a time sump. "
I support not having flying mounts until the expansion is old content, less so never being able to fly at all. I'd also be more willing to compromise if land mounts were faster. Seriously. Spirit of Shinri, but for all the mounts, all the time. Tie it in to the max speed mount training. Do it.
Talk with your money. If you disagree with the decision (delayed and drawn out as it was, basically lying about adding it later) to take out flying then cancel your subscription. Many of us have bought game time, so subscription isnt entirely important right now, but the concept behind it is. I personally listed under my reasons for canceling- Game isnt fun anymore- other - "You took out flying and after 7 years of collecting many flying mounts i dont find it fun anymore and a slap to the face for spending the time and money getting them" Also if you bought specifically flying mounts from the shop Id ask for a refund. Im not saying a single one of us will get it, but they still deserve the flood of requests. They hook line and sinkered many of us in the Deluxe edition with "You know that raven lord bird mount everyone jokes cant fly? HERES A FLYING ONE, except it cant fly in current content and we will let you know that months into the expansion"
No future flying will seriously remove the fun element for me on a personal level. I love flying in WoW as not only do I get to explore the world from any vantage point, but it also means I spend less time fighting my way to wherever I need to go. That seriously takes away any of the fun element when I have to spend 10 minutes killing pointless mobs just pick one lousy herb or mine one silly ore node. It's why I've not done much since reaching lvl 100. I can't get anywhere easily in WoD, I can't do archaeology or the pet tamers and such, and for my personally it started the death toll of WoW.Though the question remains - why is Blizzard continuing to release flying capable mounts in their online store when the majority of people are in WoD and can't use them to fly? And also, if flying is going to be removed in future patches and expansions, that is the point of having flying mounts at all?
If I see a cave up high and I can't fly to go see what it's all about then I will just ignore it and move on. Also, I didn't waste 10's of thousands of gold for my toons to get flight just to not get to fly. Sure I can fly in old content, but since Blizz is so focused on us doing end game there is a disconnect. Will this make me quit? No, but it is sure adding to the list of things I am unhappy with...
actually the "no flying" think caused many people to just stop going to places, at all...for example, many people who where into archeology, stopped doing that because it seems like tiresome grinding now that you can't fly there.I wonder if that what blizz had in mind when they decided it...
I'm watching the debate over on the Blizzard forums. And it's seeming to be strongly in favor of removing flight.Could be that way because I saw at least three pro-flight threads be deleted, but a half-dozen anti-flight threads remained untouched.***************I've made the decision to switch from "casual" to "cyclical." I have a "starter account" (free to level 20, right?). It's hooked up to the account that has all my heirlooms and the heirloom chauffeured motorcycle, so I can get decent gear for most of my slots.I'll come back for 6.2, but only long enough to set up my shipyards, and pick up the three heirloom rings. Maybe see what content is worth seeing on my main. Then back to unsubbing until the next content patch.I gave Blizzard six months of sitting in my garrison being bored out of my skull. If they want "cyclical" players, I'm happy to join those ranks.
I think it's funny that people are actually surprised about the no flying thing; I thought it was pretty obvious there wasn't going to be flying in Draenor during WoD; regardless of what I personally think, Bliz's attitude had been pretty clear to me in terms of seeing no flying as a good thing, and designing much of the terrain/content around not being able to fly. While it's true that old-world Azeroth had also originally been designed around not being able to fly, and that later that's been revised, the pre-cata zones were still designed without flying in mind, and it was sort of that because that content was old by the time cata was made, that bliz was willing to let people fly in those zones while they raced to max level. I'd been kind of hoping an announcement like this would stop the 'will there be flying' threads, but I bet it'll just give way to more whining about no flying.
I fished to get the heirloom ring... :-(
I could never understand why the sorcerous elements only came from professions' daily CDs, or garrison work orders. If Blizzard wants to tie players to garrisons, this is one very uncool way to do it.
Yeah..... the community as shown by the WoW forums isn't really happy with this change.http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/17597939626?page=3#60This company has something wrong with it.
When you buy gems or enchants (in a response to Panser's comment), you know it will get obsolete, as in every ''big'' patch they introduce new gear. With the flying SKILL thing is that, we never thought that Blizzard will just decide, not to remove, but to simply not let us use our flying skill with the new expansion. It's the first time that we buy a skill that we can't use in this expansion. And if they say that they don't want us to fly because a kind of ''immersive experience''... well, why the hell they just added a personal city? Why would I go outside my garrison when everything is there? That's the immersive experience? I've only seen people in dungeons (wich we no longer do as they didn't add new ones), raids, bg's (but I'm not a pvp player) and... well, the ones you see outside your garrison in that moment when you decide to go out to... I don't know, see if there are actually people out there! Also, the new ''mythic'' dungeons is kind of a joke. Instead of making NEW content, well, let's just add MORE difficulty to the ones we have, so people will want to go there AGAIN to get new gear! Hell no! I don't want to do again something I already did. Is like if suddenly they added a new difficulty (super hyper heroic mythic!) to Highmaul instead of addind Hellfire Citadel. Just give us new dungeons with proper gear. The most expensive expansion and the one with the most lack of real content... The rage is real.
About this whole flying thing (and to those who support no flying), I would say: Stop making a game for yourselves and those who are stuck in a time capsule in 2005. Stop ignoring 10 years of game development. Start making a game for 2015, 2016, 2020 and so on.
no flying :/ ever again. awwwww that is sad :/
